The White Sox took Friday’s opener 6-1 behind Sean Burke and two Munetaka Murakami home runs. Colorado answered with a 9-6 win Saturday, scoring four times in the ninth to put away a game that featured six homers.
Game 162 brings two lefties with shaky ERAs and two lineups that spent Saturday launching baseballs.

Hunter Goodman supplied the biggest swings for Colorado, going deep twice and driving in four runs. His second homer was a three-run shot in the ninth that gave the Rockies some breathing room before Chicago answered with three runs of its own.

White Sox Stats
Chicago has mixed a modest batting average with considerably more pop. The White Sox have topped 200 home runs, giving them enough power to punish pitchers who spend too much time in the middle of the plate.
Murakami has been one of their biggest threats with 35 home runs, and he drove in his 81st run Saturday. Miguel Vargas has added 33 homers, 93 RBI and 106 runs while reaching base at a .363 clip. Together, they give Chicago plenty of damage potential behind the top of the order.
Chase Meidroth brings a different look at the top of the lineup. He’s batting .276 with 90 runs and a .350 on-base percentage, giving Chicago traffic ahead of the bigger bats.
The White Sox also showed some late life Saturday, with Andrew Benintendi hitting a three-run homer in the ninth. It wasn’t enough to erase Colorado’s lead, but Chicago made the Rockies work through the final out.

Colorado’s season has been miserable in the standings, but there are still some dangerous bats in this lineup. Goodman made that perfectly clear Saturday.
He hit his 40th and 41st home runs of the season, becoming the first Rockies hitter to reach 40 since Nolan Arenado in 2019. Goodman finished 2-for-5 with four RBI in the 9-6 victory.
Colorado hasn’t won often, but Goodman has spent the final week making sure nobody confuses that with harmless.
TJ Rumfield has been another bright spot, batting around .300 with 16 home runs and an on-base percentage near .390. Jake McCarthy has added speed and contact to a lineup that can be more troublesome than Colorado’s record suggests.
Saturday was a pretty good advertisement for that. The Rockies collected 11 hits and three homers, with Ezequiel Tovar joining Goodman in going deep. When Colorado gets runners aboard, there is enough power behind them to make a shaky pitching performance expensive.

Kyle Freeland gets the finale for Colorado at 4-11 with a 6.58 ERA and a WHIP around 1.52. He’s struck out 106, but the larger issue has been the steady stream of baserunners and damage that follows. That’s a dangerous combination against a White Sox lineup with this much home-run power.
Chicago counters with Anthony Kay, who is 9-9 with an ERA around 4.5 and a 1.37 WHIP. His numbers are clearly better than Freeland’s, although they hardly make him untouchable. Kay has 125 strikeouts and gives Chicago the more trustworthy arm.

Freeland’s season numbers are ugly, and Saturday showed Colorado can contribute plenty to this total too.
The Rockies put up nine runs and three homers Saturday, including two from Hunter Goodman. Kay is the better starter in this matchup, but a 4.52 ERA isn’t enough to scare me away from Colorado adding its share.
Saturday produced 15 runs, and this pitching matchup gives both offenses another inviting setup. At 8.5, I’m staying with the bats.
