Miami Marlins
The Marlins have not been anything special this season but they have shown flashes of what they can do. They just have to get a little more consistent in their play.
This is a team that does have some talent on it but they still need more of it to compete at a consistently high level. They are on the right path and it is very possible they will have a bright future ahead of them.
At the moment, the biggest strength of this crew is their pitching. That is how they are going to win a lot of their games, as the offense still needs some work. If they could get a little more balanced, this could be a very dangerous team.
Miami has a record of 13-14 and is 2nd in the NL East. They find themselves 5.5 games behind the New York Mets who have been excellent thus far.
There is no question that the division they play in is very tough and being able to win it is going to take a lot. I would expect teams like the Phillies and Braves to play better than they have been as the season gets deeper to make things even more complicated.
After dropping the first two games to the Padres, Miami responded and beat them 8-0 on Saturday. They will look to have similar results when they square off on Sunday.
Pablo Lopez looked really sharp in their last game as he went 8 innings and struck out 5 batters. It certainly is no easy task to silence that offense but he clearly was up for the challenge.
Trevor Rogers will be on the bump for this one and he really needs to get back on track. He comes into this game with a record of 1-4 and an ERA of 6.14.
San Diego Padres
All in all, the Padres have gotten off to a strong start this season. I have liked what I have seen out of them so far.
Even though they have not been a fully healthy team, they still have been able to play at a high level. Those are always good things to see out of a team.
There is no question that the expectations were very high for this group in 2022. A lot of people expected them to be a true threat in the National League and potentially win their division.
I certainly think they can be a playoff team but winning the NL West is going to be really tricky. Whenever you have the Dodgers and Giants in your own division playing as they have been playing, things never come easy.
With a record of 18-10, they find themselves 2nd in the NL West. Los Angeles leads them by 1.5 games.
If things go as expected, you are going to see the top teams in that division battle back and forth the whole season for the crown. I would be surprised if one team just ran away with it.
Sean Manaea went 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs in their loss to the Fish on Saturday. He looked solid out there but the bullpen did not do a great job after he left and the offense was totally nonexistent for them.
Joe Musgrove will look to get his team back in the win column and there is certainly reason to believe he will do just that. He is 4-0 with an ERA of 1.97 at the moment.

Miami will look to get the split here and they feel like they can do so. It certainly will be no easy task but I do not see them backing down from it.
San Diego has the starting pitching advantage and the better offense. It would not shock me if they won the ball game.
With that said, I can see the fish keeping things close and not giving in here. For me, the 1.5 runs are too much to lay with the Friars.
I like Miami getting the 1.5 here.
