The only bright spot for the Marlins has been Caleb Smith. He has a super low ERA and WHIP and strikes out more than a batter per inning. Even though the Marlins are terrible he has a 3-0 record and the team is 4-3 when he starts. He struck out 8 Mets in his season debut – it was a no decision. He might make the Marlins playable in this one.
New York Mets
New York ended the first game of the series before it even started by scoring 8 runs in the first. It was an uncommon outburst for a team that still struggles with building leads for its solid pitching staff. This is a weekend they should be able to collect some easy wins and get back into the race in the NL East. Michael Comforto is looking good lately.

Two starts ago Thor was brilliant – complete game, 10Ks, 1 BB but he struggles to maintain consistency and it makes you wonder if he is ever going to be able to figure it out. His last game of the season in 2018 was a complete game shutout of the Marlins and he is more than capable of doing that again. The bullpen’s season nunbers are not great but they have been better in the last week.
