Dan Straily beat the Braves in consecutive starts on May 11 and the 18th. He deserved both victories, too, going a dozen innings and giving up two runs in the two starts put together.
None of the Braves that I heard talk after either of those two games could offer much insight into why Straily was so good both times out. But he’s a veteran pitching against a lot of young hitters.

But, once again, Straily will be an underdog and a sizable one at that. He was on a streak of five consecutive quality starts before he came up an out short of the arbitrary description last outing. He finished 5.2 innings and allowed three earned.
Atlanta Braves
Atlanta looks good in the first game of this series as I write. The Braves are up by two runs in the eighth after getting five very Julio Teheran-like innings out of Julio Teheran.
Atlanta’s opening day starter went five innings, gave up four hits and three runs and departed with a lead. He’ll get the win if the score holds.

Kolby Allard will make his Major League debut in this game and will become the third 20-year-old to appear for the Braves this season, joining Ronald Acuna Jr. and Mike Soroka.
