The Marlins will be taking on the Braves in Atlanta on Sunday, April 24th.
Jesus Luzardo will be facing Bryce Elder here.
The first pitch is set for 1:35 ET on Sunday.
Miami Marlins
The Marlins are a team that some people were high on for this season and though they could be better but they have not been all that impressive out of the gate.
In the early going, they have yet to really find their rhythm. They may look good for a game or two but they have yet to do it for an extended stretch.
This club does have some solid bats in their lineup but we all know that their biggest strength is their pitching. With that said, it would be nice this year to see them be more effective on the offensive side of things.
If Miami does not figure this out quickly, they are going to have a very hard time competing in the NL East. There are three teams that are legitimately very good in that division and I would expect that to remain the case throughout the course of the season.
So far, the Fish have split the first two games with the Braves. They lost the first game 3-0 and were able to win game 2 by a score of 9-7.
In their win on Saturday, Elieser Hernandez went 4.2 innings and allowed 5 earned runs. That was not exactly the performance they were looking for but the offense did a good job of getting them the win.
On the mound on Sunday is Jesus Luzardo who is currently 0-1 with an ERA of 5. He will look to shut down this very explosive offense for the Braves.
Being able to win the series with the Braves would be a big step in the right direction for this club. Maybe that could spark some confidence in them going forward.
Atlanta Braves
The Braves came into this season with a lot of hype and there was also just a lot of chatter about them because of them not re-signing Freddie Freeman.
Even with Freeman no longer with this team, they are still very much a dangerous club with Matt Olson as their first baseman. The next big step for them is getting Ronald Acuna Jr. back in the lineup and ready to help the team win games.
In the early going, things have just clicked for this group and that is why you see them with the record they have. Right now, they hold a mark of 7-9 which puts them in 2nd place in the NL East. Right now, they do not appear to be on the same level as the division leader, the Mets.
Before this series with the Marlins, Atlanta dropped two games out of three against the Dodgers. That series was a big test for them and they really did not have all that many answers in it.
The offense was held pretty quiet for this group in their series with LA and it has been a mixed bag so far with Miami. Certainly, they will have to get more consistent on that side of the ball as the year progresses.
Atlanta really needs to be able to take care of their business in the finale on Sunday. Losing the series to the Marlins would not be a good sign at all.
Ian Anderson went 5 innings and allowed 2 earned runs in the game on Saturday. He put forth a solid outing, but the bullpen absolutely blew it and allowed Miami to get the win.
The Braves will turn to Bryce Elder on Sunday to cap off the series. He is 1-1 on the season with an ERA of 4.50.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Marlins are 6-2 in their last 8 games against NL East.
- The Marlins are 8-17 in their last 25 games overall.
- The Braves are 17-5 in their last 22 games with the total set at 7-8.5.
- The Braves are 20-7 in their last 27 against NL East.
Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves MLB Prediction:
This is a game that will be challenging for both teams involved. I do not see it being decided by a wide margin in either direction.
Atlanta is the better team here and they are at home, but the Marlins can very much compete on Sunday.
It is hard for me to lay any kind of runs with Elder on the mound. I am not saying he cannot be productive out there, but I do not have total faith in him.
I will play the Fish getting the 1.5 runs in Atlanta.
