The Braves took the series opener. Miami had a lead in the seventh but couldn’t protect it against a really good Atlanta lineup.
This is a short series so evening things up is imperative for the Marlins, especially with their best starter on the hill.
Miami Marlins
There are a lot of things that stand out as differences between these teams. One is the lack of power in the Marlins lineup. They did get a homer in G1 from Miguel Rojas but you can pitch to everyone in this lineup.
The absence of Starling Marte is going to be felt throughout this series, however long it goes. He was instantly their most fearsome hitter whether they batted him at the top or lower in the order.
Pablo Lopez was good this season, not just good by Miami standards. His last start was against Atlanta and he shut them out for almost 6 innings giving up just 2 hits. His worst start of the season was against Atlanta though. Can he find his best form when it is going to matter most?
Atlanta Braves
Winning in the playoffs means adapting. In game one Braves “ace” Max Fried was roughed up by the Marlins, not even pitching five innings. Not problem just insert elite offense there.
The Braves scored 9 runs in the win. They slammed three homers, one by Ronald Acuna Jr, though he might have been just as excited about bombs by teammates Dansby Swanson and Travis D’Arnaud. This lineup is very tough top to bottom.
Ian Anderson made half the starts that Fried did during the regular season but he was their most dominant on the mound this season. He is just a rookie though and his two starts against the Marlins this season were losses by the team.
