Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers will enjoy a day off on Thursday in New York. They began their week well with a win against the Cubs at Wrigley Field but were stumped in the final two games.
Last night, they couldn’t solve Jon Lester, who threw seven shutout innings. Anthony Bass cleaned up the last six outs for Chicago, which won 4–0 and took two out of three in the series.
Alex Wood didn’t get a win until the 20th of May, despite pitching pretty well up until that point. Since getting it, he’s gotten another but he hasn’t pitched very well as a whole.
His ERA is up nearly a full run in the four starts that have followed, due in large part to a two-inning, six-run performance at Coors Field a couple of weeks ago.
New York Mets
Speaking of Colorado, the Rockies out-slugged the Mets in consecutive games this week, winning both 10–8, after losing big on Monday.
New York is in Denver for one more game this afternoon before getting back on a plane and heading home for this series.
Zack Wheeler used to be a coveted prospect but he just hasn’t shown the consistency so far in his career to be considered a major asset anymore.
He’s got the stuff and has plenty of six to seven-inning performances this season. He’s also been lit up a few times (20 runs in his three worst outings).
Generally, he gets through six innings and doesn’t give up more than three or four runs, though. He beat Arizona in his last start with three hits allowed in six innings of work.
