Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to get back to the World Series and the last thing in their way are the Milwaukee Brewers. I don’t think anyone saw this matchup coming. L.A. had little trouble with Atlanta using a formula of walks and homers to win.

They had both in ample quality which was impressive but lets not forget that the Braves might have peaked about two seasons too soon.

The Dodgers are favourites in the series once again but the Brew Crew should give them more resistance.

Winning and advancing was obviously the goal in the last series but the Dodgers have to be very pleased with what they got from Clayton Kershaw. He didn’t have big strike out numbers but was awesome in his lone start.

He made two starts against Milwaukee this season and the Dodgers were 1-1 in those games. He was very good at home and just so-so on the road.

Christian Yelich is the one guy who has really given him trouble – batting .529 for his career. The bullpen should be well rested and ready to go.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers do not have a lot of playoff success over the course of their history but they added to their lore with a three game sweep of the Rockies. They almost got nipped in the opener but then proceeded to shutout the Rox in back to back games.

A level of dominance that was pretty unexpected. This team can score runs but is definitely less proven than their opponents. Guys like Yelich or Jesus Aguilar just don’t have the track records of some guys on the other team.

Lorenzo Cain has been a masterful addition though and he has played in two World Series with Kansas City so maybe he stabilizes the group.

This is being written on Wednesday night and for now the Brewers have yet to name a starting pitcher. There is a possibility this is a “bullpen” day but I am not sure that is a wise way to start the series. Milwaukee does have a strong pen but this doesn’t seem a great way to start the series.

Jhoulys Chacin seems like the better play and has been their most consistent starter this season, even if he hardly strikes fear in opponents.

One bit of hesitation might be the fact that Chacin was hit hard by the Dodgers in his only start against them this season – 8 ER including 3 homers.

This is not a game you should be a lot on as the Dodgers might come in at -200 or so, not at all uncommon when Kershaw is pitching. I am looking for him to put in another strong game to get the Dodgers off to a great start.
