Kansas City Royals
Overpaying Matt Harvey is one thing but the Cincinnati Reds paid Homer Bailey $105 million over six seasons ahead of the 2014 season.
Since, he threw 149 innings in his most productive season (he had an ERA+ of 99) and has been terrible in every other year, mostly hurt, actually. The Reds finally dumped Bailey in the offseason (though they took on Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp) and the Royals picked him up and signed him to a minor league deal.

Low and behold, he’s actually pitching ok for the time being. He only got three outs in his last start, walking four and giving up four runs on three hits against Tampa Bay but up to that point he had thrown twenty-three innings in four starts and put together three real good outings that combined to total eighteen innings, ten hits, and four earned runs.
