Los Angeles Angels
The Angels got five in the seventh inning in Thursday’s finale against New York to win, 11–5, and avoid a sweep. Going into the game, LA had lost nine of ten. It will come back home after these three in Kansas City.
The Royals let Brian Goodwin go before the season and the Angels scooped him up. He’s hitting .344 so far this season and has an OPS+ of 170, despite just three home runs. He, Mike Trout, and Tommy LaStella are the only three Angels with OPS’ above league-average.

Jaime Barria, of Panama, has only made one start, though he’s on been on a starter’s schedule for nearly two weeks now. He came in on the back of the opener the last time out and went five innings.
In his one start and one long relief appearance, he’s thrown ten innings, given up ten hits, and five earned runs. He’s walked two and struck out six.
Kansas City Royals
For the third consecutive series, the Royals won just one game to avoid a sweep. This one came in the final game against the Rays on Wednesday. Prior, KC lost three out of four against the Yankees and then two out of three against the White Sox.
The Royals knocked Blake Snell out in the fourth inning other 10–2 win. Whit Merrifield and Adalberto Mondesi each homered from the top of the lineup. Say what you want about the rest of Kansas City’s lineup but those two are the top make a nice combination.

Jorge Soler has six home runs in just over 100 plate appearances but he’s barely above league-average, in terms of OPS. He’s got tantalizing skills with the bat but we’re just about at the point where it feels like he doesn’t have much more room to grow.
