LA Dodgers
Once again it has been a very strong start to the season for the Dodgers. There really are no surprises there.
Going into the season, it was widely accepted that this team was the best in the sport and that has been the case thus far. Yes, there have been some other ones that are very good but they still look the strongest to me.
Clearly, the talent sticks out for LA but so does their depth. They have so many guys that are true weapons for them either on the pitching side or the offensive side which is simply not the case for a lot of teams. For this crew, it is not always the big-name people that are contributing.
Coming into this ball game, the Dodgers hold a record of 27-13 and they are 1st in the NL West and lead the Padres by half a game. As is normally the case, it will be fun watching that division play out during the course of the season.
Although they did lose on Sunday by a score of 4-3, these guys took two of three from the Phillies over the weekend. That was a good sign for them to win that series with that team because they had just given them some trouble a little bit back.
Tony Gonsolin went 6 innings and allowed 1 earned run in their loss on Sunday. The bullpen was not able to hold it which is unlike them.
Now, they have to focus on this series with the Nationals. When facing a team like this, LA has to take care of its business.
Tyler Anderson is next up in the rotation and he has been pretty good. The ERA is a little higher than he would like but he does have a 4-0 record.
Washington Nationals
Unlike their opponent, it certainly has not been a very good season for the Nationals. It is going to be one long summer for this group.
Nobody should be taken back by the way they have played. It was understood that 2022 was not going to be a very successful season for this team in terms of wins and losses.
The reality of the situation is that they are a team that is in rebuild mode and a lot of players on their roster still have to develop. So, I would not say that the club is totally devoid of talent but rather they are not proven yet.
When you break them down and see them play, it is evident that they need a lot of work in multiple areas. Unless those areas get better, it is going to be an awful lot of losing for them in the years to come.
First off, the pitching is simply not good and that has been the case for a bit now. The rotation needs a ton of work and the bullpen is a total mess. When those realities are combined, it makes it pretty damn hard to win ball games.
In terms of the offense, that once again is nothing that is all that special. If I were Juan Soto, I would be looking to get out of this situation as quickly as possible if winning is a priority. Even with him putting up great numbers and being one of the best in the game, that side of the field is still very lacking for Washington.
The Nats did drop two of three from the Brewers in their last series but they did pick up the final win on Sunday by a score of 8-2. They hit around Freddy Peralta very well which should at least give them some sort of confidence for this series.
Joan Adon will be starting in the opener on Monday and boy, has he been dreadful this season. There is no question that the kid is talented but he is very raw and unrefined. At this moment, I really do not feel he should be in the MLB. They ought to let him develop more in the minors because he has not shown the ability to consistently get hitters out at the pro level.

This is a game and a series in which the Dodgers must capitalize and I expect them to do so.
LA has a clear advantage in starting pitcher and offense. Not to mention, they are just the way better team here and match up incredibly well with the Nats.
I have very little confidence in Adon being able to put forth a strong outing here and the same goes for that disastrous bullpen. If this game were to get out of hand, I would not be surprised.
