The Dodgers and Cardinals will be facing off in the second game of their series on Wednesday evening.
Tony Gonsolin is going against Adam Wainwright, which is certainly a good matchup.
It is nothing heavy, but LA is a decent-size favorite on the road here. I have not seen any movement from the opening total of 8.
LA Dodgers
As I look at what the Dodgers have done so far, I have been quite impressed by them and I expect them to only keep that up as the year goes on.
I still feel there is another level they could get to just based on how talented they are. That is not to say what they have done so far isn’t good, but it would not shock me if they are even more dominant after the break.
Even though they did not get the intended result on Tuesday night, this is still a team that has appeared to really figure things out and they are 8-2 in their last 10 games. It was only a matter of time before the consistency really came with this bunch.
For a good part of this season, there was nobody running away with the division, but the Dodgers have been able to create some separation, which they hope will only build as the games keep going on.
Right now, this team leads the Padres by 7.5 games and the Giants by 12 games. If they keep on playing their style of baseball, there is no reason to believe they do not clinch the West.
Their series-opening loss with the Cardinals was a game they could have gotten, but they just could not pull it off in the end. Offensively, I liked what I saw from them, but the pitching simply did not perform all that well.
Mitch White got the start last time out and he went 5 innings while allowing 10 hits and 6 earned runs. The bullpen was solid for a few innings, but David Price allowed a run in the 8th inning, which gave the Cards their 7th run.
LA will be turning to their all-star, Tony Gonsolin, and this guy has been awesome the entire season. He still does not have a loss on the season and holds an ERA under 2. It is hard to argue with those numbers.
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals have not exactly been great in their last stretch of games, but they have played well in their last few and will need to keep that up here.
After taking care of business on Tuesday, they have won three in a row and they hope that is just the start of a hot streak.
Throughout the season, they have definitely dealt with highs and lows, but they have been able to stay steady, which is key during a long season. Even when they are not playing their best, there is never a sense there is any panic in their room.
This is not the flashiest team out there and other ones get talked about more, but I have really liked what I have seen from this group. They do a lot of things well and I just see them as a solid group that can give a lot of other teams trouble.
Although I like where they currently are, I do feel they could use some pieces to get on another level. For me, it would be nice to see them add a bat and an arm to add some more support to this roster.
As expected, the NL Central has been a two-team race, and boy, has it been fun to watch. The Brewers lead them by 2 games, but based on how this season has gone, that could change very quickly.
St. Louis knew this series was going to be a tricky one and they wanted to make a statement to show they can hang with the best team in the NL. It did get a little scary for them in the opener, but they will take a win any way they can get one against this team.
Adam Wainwright will get the ball here and he keeps on pitching well. He might not be a guy that is going to overpower people, but he has done a nice job of inducing weak contact and giving his team a chance to compete when he takes the hill.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Dodgers are 6-1 in their last 7 road games vs. a right-handed starter.
- The Dodgers are 40-12 in their last 52 during 2 of a series.
- The Cardinals are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. the NL West.
- The Cardinals are 8-23 in their last 31 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
LA Dodgers vs. St. Louis Cardinals MLB Prediction:
The Dodgers did not play their best ball in Game 1, but I look for them to be better here.
A lot of time players get hyped up, but they do not deserve it. That has not been the case with Gonsolin. He has been dominant this season and if he has his arsenal working on Wednesday, he is more than capable of containing this offense.
It would not surprise me if Wainwright is also effective, but I like the Dodgers to do enough against him and that pen.
At a reasonable price, give me the Dodgers on the Moneyline.
