Los Angeles is a rare underdog here and the total is sitting at 8.5 It did open at 9 and has since dropped.
LA Dodgers
The Dodgers are once again having a very strong season. That statement should be nothing new to baseball fans.
Based on the team they have and their manager, it was expected that this group would play at a high level and that is what they have done. If they were not playing a good brand of baseball, I think a lot of people would be surprised.
As we know, LA is very deep on both sides of the ball and they can present issues for teams in both the pitching and hitting departments. Not many teams can say that but that has been true of the Dodgers for some time now.
When it comes to winning games, they can certainly just outscore people with their excellent offense but they can also win pitchers’ duels with their excellent pitching both in terms of starters and bullpen.
With that said, I do feel the Dodgers could use another piece in that rotation. Right now, I think what they have is good but not great and that will have to get fixed before the end regular season.
This series with the Phillies has to mean a lot for this team. They just squared off with Philadelphia a little bit ago and lost 3 of 4 games. When you are a team like LA that does not do a lot of losing, that series cannot make you happy in the least bit.
In the 4-1 victory on Friday, Julio Urias fired 5 innings, did not allow an earned run, and struck out 5 batters. He did not give them the best length but he was certainly effective while he was out there which is clearly what they want to see from him.
The next man up in the rotation for this group is Mitch White. I am curious to see how he does with this potent offense. He comes into the contest without a decision and has an ERA of 4.82.
Philadelphia Phillies
As you look at the whole picture, the Phillies have not been anything all that special but they have appeared to turn it up over the past couple of weeks and they hope that is a good sign for the future.
A big knock on this team for some time now is their propensity to not live up to expectations. Yes, they certainly were lofty for the 2022 season but it was for good reasons and they still have yet to show that they can play on a true consistent level.
When it comes to the offensive side of things, they have been terrific and that is expected. Given the players that are in this lineup, it is very realistic to expect them to produce an awful lot of runs for this season.
In terms of the pitching, I would say that it has been less of an issue than in past years but still nothing great. What they have in that area has potential but there are still things that need to get worked out.
The clearest issue that I see in that department for them which has been the case for years now is the bullpen. That part of their roster is in no way a strength of theirs and often, it is a major setback.
Even if the starters put forth solid outings, it is hard to realistically expect the pen to keep the lead. If you are a fan of this team, the thought of them blowing the game has to always be in the back of your mind. Just take that crazy comeback the Mets had in the 9th inning against them for an example.
Ranger Suarez was not very effective in the loss on Friday but the pen did do its job. However, that did not matter because the offense went quiet against the LA pitching.
Aaron Nola will be on the mound here and boy, would it be a good sign for him to get a W. Even though his ERA is solid, the righty holds a record of just 1-4.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Dodgers are 19-7 in their last 26 Saturday games.
- The Dodgers are 5-2 in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a losing record.
- The Phillies are 2-6 in their last 8 games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.
- The Phillies are 1-4 in their last 5 games as a home favorite.
LA Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies MLB Prediction:
The Dodgers did just what they wanted to do on Friday with Urias on the mound and will look to repeat that with White and their pen here again on Saturday.
For a lot of teams, the bullpen game route puts them at a big disadvantage. For the Dodgers though, that is not the case and I expect them to once again be sharp against the Phils.
Nola has been solid this season but as I mentioned earlier, that has not always translated to wins. Even if he is effective, here I see Los Angeles taking care of business.
Give me the Dodgers in a rare spot getting + money.
