The Angels will be on the road to start a series with the Mariners on Friday evening.
Two lefties will be opposing each other here, as Patrick Sandoval will be going for the Halos and Robbie Ray will be going for the M’s.
Seattle is a very big favorite at home in this one. The total opened at 6.5 and has since ticked up to 7.
LA Angels
The Angels come into this game having lost two of three against the Athletics and now they will have to play a very tough team in the Mariners.
The hope is that they would have been able to do more damage against Oakland but based on the season this group has had, nothing should really surprise people about them.
In their last series, the offense really was not all that great and that was a bit concerning given the team they were going up against.
They did score 7 runs in the finale, but it still was not enough as they dropped the game by a score of 8-7. In the previous two games, they scored just a combined four runs which certainly is not good enough.
I thought the pitching was sharp in the first two games with the A’s but that clearly was not the case in the third game. Even though their opponent does not have a very good order, they were still able to expose them on the mistakes they made.
Janson Junk went 2.1 innings and allowed five hits and six earned runs while walking two and punching out two. After he left, the bullpen was actually not all that bad, but that did not matter in the end.
There is always the chance the Angels play up to their competition in this series with Seattle, but I would not count on that one. If they are off their game just a little bit, it could be a very ugly four games for them.
Patrick Sandoval will start things off here and has been better than the bad record of 3-7. Don’t get me wrong, he has had some rough outings, but he has also had plenty of solid ones and just has not always gotten the necessary support.
Seattle Mariners
The Mariners picked up two wins against the Yankees in their last series and were able to pick up the series win in the Bronx which has not happened all that often in 2022.
After a 7-2 loss on Monday, some folks thought that is how the rest of the series was going to go with the Bombers, but that simply was not the case as these guys did a good job of bouncing back.
It was already acknowledged how hot Seattle had been and they were a very dangerous team, but people still wanted to see how they did when they faced a real test. I am curious to see what happens when these teams meet up on the west coast coming up.
Logan Gilbert did not look great in the second game, but his team did a good job of getting to Jameson Taillon and the bullpen to get the close win.
In the finale, the Mariners hit Gerrit Cole very hard and they scored six runs off of him in the first inning. Cole did eventually get into a groove and did not allow a run from that point on, but the damage was done and it proved to be too much for the Bombers to handle.
Newly acquired Luis Castillo was impressive in his debut with Seattle as he went 6.2 innings and allowed three earned runs while striking out eight batters. This is a guy that made a good pitching staff even better and he is going to be a huge part of how far they ultimately go.
With this upcoming series with Los Angeles, this club really has a chance to do some damage. Of course, they are not automatic wins, but it would not shock me if they just keep on rolling.
Robbie Ray will get the ball in this one and he has not been the guy he was a year ago yet he still has been able to show flashes of that. Consistency has been a problem for him and I think the record of 8-8 is reflective of that.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Angels are 14-33 in their last 47 games following a loss.
- The Angels are 2-6 in their last 8 road games vs. a right-handed starter.
- The Mariners are 5-0 in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing record.
- The Mariners are 6-1 in their last 7 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.
LA Angels vs. Seattle Mariners MLB Prediction:
I do not see this being a game that is very low scoring. It might not be a total shootout but I do feel there will be some runs.
Both of these starters are good arms but they have gotten hit at times this season and I can see them giving up a few runs apiece.
The bullpen for Seattle is strong but the same cannot be said for LA and I do not have a ton of confidence in them totally keeping the Mariners off the board.
I like the over of 7 in this game.
