Kansas City Royals
Simply put, the Royals have not had a good season at all. I cannot say they have been disappointing because nobody thought they would be any good this season.
As you look at what this team has done over the last multiple seasons, it is more of the same. They consistently play a below-average brand of baseball and it shows with their record.
It is certainly an understatement that this roster is not built well and that is certainly put on display when they take the field. This group needs a lot of fixes to be made before they come anywhere near relevant.
One issue that has plagued them for some time now is their lack of pitching. It has been a revolving door over the years of guys in the rotation but none of them have really figured it out on a consistently high level.
Also, the bullpen is an area that clearly is not very good and needs a ton of work. When teams face Kansas City, they should want to get to their pen because they know it is a very real possibility they can score multiple runs off of them.
In terms of their offense, that is also nothing special. Sure, they have some good hitters mixed in there but it is certainly not a top-notch lineup.
The bottom line with this team right now is they have a lot of holes and until they get fixed, you are going to see a team that does not win a whole lot. They might surprise some teams here and there but it won’t all that often.
Zack Greinke will be on the mound for this final game with the Twins. He has not exactly been sharp in his return to Kansas City and he will have a lot on his plate when he tries to slow down this offense for Minnesota.
Minnesota Twins
For the most part, the Twins have been impressive this season. I have liked the way they have played and feel they will keep that up as the season goes on.
This team knew that this season had to be different than it was a year ago. What they did in 2021 was a very bad look because the way they played was not reflective of the team they were.
Even now, they are not the most talented team out there but with the players, they do have, it makes more sense that they have the record they do as opposed to a team that was below .500.
Coming into this game, Minnesota has a record of 28-19 and leads the AL Central. A lot of people were under the impression that it would be the White Sox in the first place of that division but that is a team that cannot get out of their own way.
Given the fact that the division they play in is not a top one out there, it is very reasonable this club would finish first by the end of the season. Of course, the White Sox could have a surge, and these guys begin to slide, but if they keep up how they have been playing, they should take care of business there.
Although it is very possible that this squad wins the Central, I am not sold on them being able to make a deep playoff run. That is where I feel their lack of depth and just overall talent would catch up to them in a longer series.
To make this team a little more complete, they would need to bolster their rotation a bit, get a few more productive bats inserted into the lineup, and beef up the bullpen. If they do not do that, it is hard for me to see this team getting over the top.
Although Minnesota is a much better team than Kansas City, that has not been the case in this series, as they have dropped two of three so far. They will look for the split on Sunday when they send Sonny Gray out there.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Royals are 7-15 in their last 22 road games.
- The Royals are 7-17 in their last 24 games as a road dog.
- The Twins are 5-0 in their last 5 Sunday games.
- The Twins are 14-3 in their last 17 games as a home favorite.
Kansas City Royals vs. Minnesota Twins MLB Prediction:
Minnesota has certainly played down to their competition in a big chunk of this series but I look for them to get back on track in the finale.
Although Sonny Gray might not be getting a ton of attention, nationally, he has been impressive this season and is more than capable of keeping this lineup in check.
In terms of Greinke, it is hard to have all that much confidence in him right about now. He has not shown a whole lot of good things thus far and I am not expecting him to be all that effective against this offense.
I like Minnesota on the run line here.
