The Royals will begin a series with the Twins in Minnesota on Thursday, May 26th.

Kansas City Royals
Boy, it certainly has not been a very strong season for the Royals. It looks like it is going to be one long summer for them.
We knew this team was not going to be all that great this season but it was realistic to feel they could at least be better than this. 14 games below .500? Really?
Coming into this series, this is a group that has a record of 14-28 and they sit in the basement of the AL Central. It will be a battle between them and the Tigers to see who is the worst team in the division for the remainder of the season.
After making it to the World Series in ’14 and then winning it in ’15, this is a team that just has not been relevant. It has been year after year of below-average baseball and it really does not look like it is going to stop anytime soon.
There is no doubt that it is a poorly constructed team and that is evident by the way they play. People can say all they want about the pipeline or prospects but they do not have the players on the field right now that are good enough to win at a high level and that is an issue.
The offense they feature is really just an average one. They do have some good hitters sprinkled in there but it is not an offense that should really scare the opposition.
As far as their pitching goes, that area needs a lot of work. The rotation is lacking and so is the pen. It is pretty hard to win games with that combo.
Starting this four-game set with the Twins is going to be a tough one. Daniel Lynch will look to start his team off on the right note but he will certainly have his hands full.
Minnesota Twins
A lot of other teams might be getting more attention and talk but the Twins have been impressive this season. For the most part, I have liked what I have seen from them.
After their 2021 season in which they totally underperformed, it was critical that they came back and were stronger in 2022. So far, they have done just that.
Minnesota currently leads the AL Central with a record of 27-17. I think a lot of folks were under the impression that it would be the Chicago White Sox who would be in control of that division but that has not been the case.
Clearly, a big thing for this club is whether or not they will be able to sustain what they have done. It is always good to get off to a strong start but it is just as important to keep on playing that way during the course of the season.
It is clear that Minnesota has some good players but I would not say they are loaded with talent. With that said, they have gone out there and gotten the job done more times than not thus far.
Before this series with KC, the Twins took two games of three from the Tigers. After winning the first couple of games in the series, they did drop the finale to Detroit by a score of 4-2.
Dylan Bundy went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 earned run in their loss on Wednesday. The offense just went quiet in that game which has not happened all that many times this season.
Devin Smeltzer will get the ball in the opener on Thursday evening. He does not have a ton of appearances this season but so far, so good. He is 1-0 with an ERA of 1.74.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Royals are 6-14 in their last 20 road games.
- The Royals are 9-23 in their last 32 games.
- The Twins are 4-0 in their last 4 during game 1 of a series.
- The Twins are 11-2 in their last 13 games after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game.
Kansas City Royals vs. Minnesota Twins MLB Prediction:
The Twins have been playing well and I look for that to keep up here. This series with the Royals is a good matchup for them.
After the offense for Minnesota was cold in the finale with Detroit, I expect them to be better here. Their goal should be to get to Lynch and put the game in the hands of that KC pen.
Smeltzer has enjoyed some success against the Royals in his short career and I see that continuing. I am not saying he will pitch a gem but I feel he will get the job done against this divisional rival.
I like the Twins laying the runs at home here.
