The Royals will be in Colorado to take on the Rockies on Saturday, May 14th.
Carlos Hernandez and German Marquez are the starting pitchers in this game.
Colorado is laying a pretty good price here with the total sitting at 10.5.
Kansas City Royals
It certainly has not been a very good season for the Royals. It seems like another season where they are bound to be irrelevant.
I cannot say that the poor start for this team is all that surprising. Realistically, I did not feel like they would be all that great.
Sometimes it can be tricky to figure out why teams are not very good but it is not that hard for this group. Simply put, they just are not very talented and do not have the roster to compete on a consistently high level.
The rotation is certainly not a strong one, the bullpen also has issues, and the lineup is just average. When you combine those things, it is hard to think that you are going to do a lot of winning.
Listen, I am not saying they do not have some players on their team that could make them good in the future but as of right now, they still have a very long way to go. It is hard to believe they made it to the World Series all those years ago based on how they are playing now.
In the 14-10 win over the Rockies on Friday, Zack Greinke went 4.2 innings and allowed 5 earned runs. The pitching was definitely not the reason they won the game but the offense stepped up big.
Winning shootouts like that are good once in a while but are not sustainable. At some point, you have to be able to get solid production from the pitching staff.
Kansas City will turn to Carlos Hernandez next and he has not been very good this season. Currently, the right-hander is 0-2 with an ERA of 7.15.
Colorado Rockies
The Rockies have played better than what a lot of people thought. The fact that they are even relevant right now is a bit surprising.
For a while now, it has been accepted that they would not put up a very strong year. It got to the point where you just began to accept it.
Colorado is not necessarily loaded with talent but they do have some good players and reasons to feel optimistic about their future. I am curious to see how they play for the rest of the year.
As we all know, the NL West is a very tough division and I do not see it being realistic for this team to win it this season. Based on how well the Giants, Padres, and Dodgers have played, it will likely be one of them that wins the division.
These guys know that they still have a long ways to go if they want to get on the level of those three teams. They have a foundation to get better but know they need to continue to get better and deeper.
Similar to the Royals, a big issue I see with this team is their pitching. More times than not, they are not getting great performances on that side of the ball and that certainly is an issue.
Kyle Freeland did not look all that good in game 1 as he went 4.2 innings, allowed 12 hits, and 6 earned runs. Given the lineup he went up against, he should have been able to be better than that.
German Marquez will be getting the ball on Saturday and he has not been impressive so far. He does not have a win yet and holds an ERA of 6.47.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Royals are 5-2 in their last 7 interleague road games.
- The Royals are 5-2 in their last 7 vs. NL West.
- The Rockies are 5-1 in their last 6 Saturday games.
- The Rockies are 8-2 in their last 10 during game 2 of a series.
Kansas City Royals vs. Colorado Rockies MLB Prediction:
KC started off the series well and will look to keep that up in this one. They should feel good about their chances here.
They are probably not expecting all that much from Hernandez but they know they can hit Marquez. I feel like they would take their chances even if they did not get great pitching.
Colorado is the better team but I am not sold on this one being easy for them. The 1.5 runs are too much for me to lay with them here.
Give me the Royals at +1.5
