The Royals and Guardians will be squaring off for the finale of their series on Wednesday afternoon.
Brad Keller and Konnor Pilkington are the opposing pitchers in this one.
Although not a huge favorite, Cleveland is still laying a decent size price at home. The total began at 8 and is now up to 9.
Kansas City Royals
The Royals continue to struggle. Nothing is really new on that front, though.
There are some teams out there that have struggled and it has surprised some people but that is not the case here. It was well understood it was going to be another down year for this club.
The reality of this team right now is they have a lot of flaws and those are being exposed quite often. On the professional level, that is typically what happens to teams like that.
Everybody around the league knows that what Kansas City has at the moment is not good enough but there is no guarantee they will do a whole lot about it.
I have heard the tired message from them before about the players they have coming up in the system. It is great to have people in the pipeline but there is no guarantee they will turn out to be what they want and it still is about the individuals you have on the field now.
These first two games with the Guardians are perfect examples of their main flaw, pitching, getting exposed. After dropping the first one on Monday by a score of 7-3, they dropped the second one by a score of 8-3. It is pretty hard to win games that way.
In the loss on Tuesday, Daniel Lynch went 4 innings and allowed 6 earned runs. KC was really expecting to get a better start by him and they just did not get it.
Brad Keller will be on the mound in this one and he will look to break the trend of the bad pitching. Although not great, he does have a respectable ERA of 3.95 but the record of 1-5 is nowhere near what he would want.
Cleveland Guardians
As I look at the whole, I am still not that impressed with the Guardians. They have shown me good things in bursts but I still need to see more of it.
Given the kind of team they are, I could see the trend of them playing well and then not looking good for a bit. They are a classic up-and-down baseball team.
I do feel if they were more talented, then you would see a team that won with more regularity but that is not their reality at the moment. The lack of consistency is a calling card for a middling team and that is certainly what they are.
If they keep on how they have played for the season, then I could see this being a team that wins around 77-79 games. If they were to get into the 80s, I do feel it would be pushing it but it certainly is not impossible.
Unless something drastically changes, I feel you are going to see a Cleveland team that routinely trades wins and losses. I know the front office does not want that for the long term but if they do not improve their roster, you will see more of the same.
One reason for optimism surrounding this team is the fact that the division they play in is by no means loaded. Sure, the Twins and White Sox are certainly better than they are but they are not world-beaters. Although unlikely in the end, if you are the Guardians, there is no reason to believe you cannot either catch Chicago for 2nd or potentially get 1st if Minnesota falls off.
Although they are nowhere near contention, this series with the Royals so far shows the weakness of the Central. It is so important that they take care of the bad teams in their division and at least have some success against the better ones.
The pitching and the offense have both been strong in the first two contests with Cleveland and they will look to complete the sweep on Wednesday afternoon. Konnor Pilkington will get the ball here and he certainly has some upside. Currently, he does not have a record but owns an ERA of 3.75.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Royals are 95-193 in their last 288 games as a road dog.
- The Royals are 17-41 in their last 58 games after losing the first two games of the series.
- The Guardians are 35-17 in their last 52 games as a favorite.
- The Guardians are 41-17 in their last 58 games as a home favorite.
Kansas City Royals vs. Cleveland Guardians MLB Prediction:
Cleveland has shown the blueprint on how to have success so far in this series. They have pitched well and gotten great production from the offense.
In this one here, I look for similar things to happen. Although they do have a starter with limited experience, I trust them more than Kansas City.
Keller certainly has not been the sharpest this season and he will have his hands full here. As the game goes on, I have a hard time seeing him and that bullpen keeping the Guardians in check.
It is a little more juice than I would normally pay but I like Cleveland on the ML.
