The Astros will be squaring off with the Rangers in the 2nd game of their series on Tuesday evening.
Jose Urquidy and Dane Dunning are the probable starters in this one.
At the moment, Houston is laying a short price on the road with a total of 8.5. It did begin at 9 but has since dipped.
Houston Astros
The Astros have played quite well this season, but they have not been great in their recent games, as they have dropped 4 of their past 5.
With a team like this, it is certainly nothing to panic over, but it is something to take note of. After dropping the first one to the Rangers, they have to get back on track.
For the most part, the way they have played is what we expected from them and it really is not that surprising.
There are certainly individuals that are no longer on this team that are big losses, but they have still been able to be one of the better teams in the sport.
In terms of just talent, they are not at the level of some former Houston teams, but they have still been able to get contributions from lots of different people, which has helped get them to get to the point they are at now.
A staple of this team for some years now has been strong pitching and that has been largely been the case this season. Justin Verlander is looking like he could win the Cy Young and other guys that are not as well known have also stepped up.
The offense is still producing at a high level and remains a strength of this team. If Houston can manage to stay healthy and be consistent, it would not shock me if they make another deep run this postseason.
Jose Urquidy will be getting the ball in this one and he has been up and down so far. The record of 5-3 is not terrible, but he does hold an ERA north of 5 and that has to be better as the year goes on.
Texas Rangers
The Rangers have not been the most consistent team all year long, but they have been playing better and appear to be headed in the right direction.
Given the additions they made to their roster in the offseason, it was expected that this Texas team would be more relevant in 2022 and put out a better brand of baseball than they had in past seasons.
Of course, there is still a lot of work to do with this group, but there does appear to be some positivity around this team and there should be. For the first time in some time, there are at least some reasons for fans to feel optimistic about them.
Before the season started, you heard a lot about the Angels in the AL West, but right now it is the Rangers who are in 2nd place of the division. Even for the people that thought they would be better, I still think that statement comes as a surprise to them.
Houston still leads the division by 7.5 games and it would take a lot to overtake them, but it is not totally impossible. If Texas can keep on playing well, they should feel like they can keep gaining ground in the West.
Clearly, a quick way to gain on the team ahead of you is by winning your head-to-head matchups and that is what the Rangers did on the opener on Monday. There is still a whole series left to play but it is a good start for them.
In the 5-3 victory, Taylor Hearn went 5.1 innings and allowed 3 earned runs, while the bullpen held up. On the flip side, Texas was able to get into the Astros’ bullpen and earn the win.
Dane Dunning will be called upon for the 2nd game of the series and he has not been great so far. He really has to step up but will have a very tall order with this offense.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Astros are 4-0 in their last 4 games vs. a right-handed starter.
- The Astros are 10-3 in their last 13 games following a loss.
- The Rangers are 1-4 in their last 5 home games.
- The Rangers are 8-0 in their last 8 during game 2 of a series.
Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers MLB Prediction:
The Astros did not start off the series how they would have liked, but they have a good chance to get back on track here.
Dunning is a guy that has proven to be very hittable this season and he is someone Houston had success against before. I feel this matchup is a good one for them.
Urquidy does not have to pitch a gem here, but he has to at least be solid. If he can do that and hand it in their pen, Houston should like their chances.
I like the Astros on the Moneyline here.
