Carlos Correa’s home run in the bottom of the 9th last night extended the series another day.
Tampa is still in a great position but they have to be wondering how they get over the hump and get that final game.
We are getting a couple of regular starters in this spot so this one is likely to look more like a regular game. Who might that favour.
Houston Astros
All the reports are that Carlos Correa called his shot last night. I am not sure if that’s really the case because we neve hear about when players do that and ground out to second base.
Nevertheless, the Astros won again and there is now a modicum of hope that they keep pushing forward, even though they are defying history.
Framber Valdez was warming up in the bullpen last night because the Astros thought they might need him. He has been very good in these playoffs.
I am not overly concerned about Valdez but I am a little worried about the Astros bullpen. These close games have really maxed out that group, and they are not as deep as Tampa in that area.
Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays did get another homer from Randy Arozarena but they could only score when they hit home runs last night. That is a recurring theme for them.
I know it isn’t easy but they have to find some ways to be a little better with their situational hitting and maybe to run a little bit when they get guys on base.
Blake Snell is ready to go for this one and on regular rest. That should be an advantage for the Rays. Reliever Nick Anderson is probably not available though. He might be a little shell shocked anyway after the homer to Correa.
Pete Fairbanks and Diego Castillo did not pitch yesterday though. Having them available, with Snell, looks like a pretty nasty trio.
Tampa got out to that 3-0 lead but all of the games have been close. They need to nail this down tonight.
