Tampa comes into this game with less rest having needed all five game to eliminate the Yankees.
Houston beat their AL West rival Oakland to advance to the ALCS, yet again.
How the Astros got here has been way different than expected. The question is whether they can continue to keep advancing as an underdog.
Houston in the ALCS is no surprise. How they have gotten to this point, navigating so many injuries to their pitching during the regular season and twice winning series as underdogs have made them an interesting story.
The core of this team is still a lineup that has won a World Series and played in another. The lineup really came alive against Oakland, never scoring less than five runs in a game in the 3-1 series victory. SS Carlos Correa has swung the hottest bat with four homes and 12 RBIs.
Houston has yet to announce a starter for this game. It would seem in terms of rest and experience that Lance McCullers Jr is the most likely starter. He did not pitch well in his lone playoff start against Oakland.
It really could be anyone other than Zach Greinke, who pitched the series-clinching game against the A’s.
Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa Bay needed all five games to dispatch the Yankees. Only the last game would be considered a good one though as a late homer off Aroldis Chapman was the difference.
In the closing game, they elected to use Ty Glasnow on really short rest. I think that was because they knew they were just going to ask him for a couple of innings.
That approach means they have Blake Snell, who opened both series against Toronto and New York. He should be well rested and ready to go.
The bullpen is desperate for the day off between series and they would benefit from Snell going deep into the ballgame. Tampa won’t push Snell though. They will use the league’s best bullpen as much as needed.
Tampa’s lineup is not very fearsome. Don’ feel bad if you have not heard much about guys names Randy Arozarena and Michael Brosseau before. They do have good situational hitters though.

Free Houston Astros vs. Tampa Bay Rays MLB Prediction: Houston ML
With the short season, the Astros and Rays did not meet this season. That may be advantage to the pitchers.
However, I like what I have been seeing from the Astros linep and the last time we saw Snell he was not as effective against the Yankees as he was against the Jays.
McCullers wasn’t either but he is still finding himself after a season off due to injury. I think he can keep pace with Snell and a big hit wins it late for the Astros
