The A’s are looking to close the weekend with a series sweep. They are on such a roll that it looks likely to happen too. They are hurting the Astros right now.
Houston Astros
The Astros are scuffling and in danger of falling significantly behind Oakland in the AL West. With every loss it is even more conceivable that they don’t even make the playoffs.
Cristian Javier is a guy that has been pressed into action thanks to injuries. Fortunately for Houston, he has actually looked pretty good. As a rookie he has never faced Oakland before that and tends to benefit the pitcher, especially against a swing and miss lineup like Oakland’s. Oddly he might be their best chance in the series to get a win.
Oakland Athletics
Oakland won another close one on Saturday, that makes 8 in a row. For the second game in a row though they have only scored three runs. In four of their eight wins, they have scored three runs so even though they are winning a lot I would feel more comfortable if they were scoring more. They are pitching great but they need more offense.
Jesus Luzardo got warmed up with a couple of relief outings before making a start in his last appearance. He looks like he was worth the wait yielding just a couple of hits over five innings. Similar to Javier he will have the advantage of facing a lineup that is unfamiliar with his talents. That should help him out as will a very strong bullpen.
