Houston Astros
The Astros got six strong innings out of Brad Peacock and a go-ahead solo home run by Derek Fisher in the top of the eighth inning to beat Oakland, 3–2, on Friday night and extend their lead in the AL West to 8.5 games.
Missing Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve, and George Springer, not to mention Aledyms Diaz, Houston relied on guys with names like Myles Straw and Jack Mayfield to send Oakland to its third loss in a row.

The bullpen deserves recognition too. Hector Rondon, Ryan Pressly, and Roberto Osuna each threw a scoreless inning in relief. Only Rondon allowed a baserunner on a single hit.
Wins like the one on Friday are what the Astros are going to have to rely on to stay on top here in June with none of the three big stars with a plan to return anytime soon.
Oakland A’s
The A’s scored first on a two-run homer by Matt Chapman in the bottom of the third. Mike Fiers pitched into the seventh but Lou Trivino, who got the last out in the seventh, left a fastball down the middle to Fisher, who deposited it way over the wall in center field.

On Oakland’s entire staff, only Trivino gives up less hits per nine innings than Sunday’s starter, Chris Bassitt. The thirty-year-old, former 16th round pick is giving up just 6.5 hits per nine and has a WHIP under 1.15. He’s pitching to a 3.27 ERA at the moment.
Those numbers aren’t much different than what he did in just under fifty innings last season, which was broken up because of injury. His emergence in May was one of the reasons Oakland picked up the pace.
