Houston Astros
Houston split with Cleveland over the weekend and now they take on the other contender in the AL Central. They have the top batting average in the Majors and are 6th in homers but just 14th in runs scored. There seems to be some sequencing there but you have to think they get it figured out and then they can really go on a run – which is kind of scary. Josh Reddick is leading the team with a .341 average.

Gerrit Cole was awesome in his AL debut season last year. This year he has been striking out guys but getting hit a lot more than expected, especially the long ball which he really had under control last year. The first month of the season has usually been one of his best months so we will have to see if he can get things to the level expected. The bullpen is more hittable than expected but they have been OK.
Minnesota Twins
I am still not sure about the ceiling of the Twins but they are good at taking care of business – they swept Baltimore over the weekend which is what you are supposed to do. Not sure I can buy them maintaining their power – 4th in homers at the moment though I loved the Nelson Cruz pick up. Eddie Rosario already has 11 but has never hit even 30 in a season.

Michael Pineda is big and intimidating and has always had the stuff but has never really put it together. Minnesota is hoping they can maximize him this season. The ratio is there but he has been too easy to hit. The Minnesota bullpen is far from fearsome but at the same time it does not appear this group is going to hold them back in anyway.
