Houston Astros
Jake Odorizzi pitched at right about a league-average level in 100 innings for Houston last season.
He faced exactly one Angel in 2021 before departing his third start of the season with an injury that held him out a month.
Houston ushers in a new era at shortstop with young Jeremy Pena set to replace Carlos Correa.
Born in the Dominican Republic, Pena moved to Rhode Island with his family when he was a boy and eventually played college baseball at the University of Maine.
The Astros picked him in the third round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He slashed .287/.346/.598 in 133 plate appearances at Triple-A Sugarland last season.
He won’t have much pressure on him to produce offensively. The Astros are loaded at the top with everyone but Correa back from last year’s team that made another run to the World Series before coming up short.
Los Angeles Angeles
After Shohei Ohtani makes his season debut as the starting pitcher and leadoff hitter, left-hander Patrick Sandoval will start game number two of the season.
He went just 3–6 in 14 starts last season. The ERA+ (124) and WHIP (1.20) were impressive, though.
It’s the Angels’ with that Sandoval continues to be difficult to hit and the wins follow.
Joe Maddon is back for his third season managing the club. He has finished with a losing record in each of his first two.
In his previous twelve seasons managing the Rays and Cubs before arriving in Los Angeles, Maddon had just one losing season.
The Angels’ roster construction just continues to look the same with the same concerns it has had throughout the Mike Trout era.
The player most consider the best of his era and perhaps even going back further than that has exactly one postseason hit in his career and not a single win.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:

Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels MLB Prediction:
Neither starting pitcher has much of a recent track record of logging lots of innings but both are healthy and strong at the start of this season.
So look for Odorizzi to navigate LA’s lineup the way any veteran would, by limiting damage at the top and attacking the last six.
Sandoval can be hard to hit. Taking an under in a Houston game is always a risky prospect but that’s where I lean in this one.
