Houston Astros
The Astros just keep on playing good baseball and it does not appear as if that is going to slow down anytime soon. They have really picked things up as the season has gotten deeper.
It was only a matter of time before this team started playing like we thought they would. There is no question that they started off the season a bit choppy but you did not get the sense that anybody was panicking.
With the players that are on this roster and the manager that they have leading them, it would have to take an awful lot to get them to worry. They are too talented and too experienced to get thrown off by a slower start than usual.
Until further notice, Houston is still the best team in the AL West and it really is not up for discussion. Sure, the Angels are better but they appear to be going to back to Earth and it would not surprise me one bit if they end up being a middling team when all is said and done.
If the Astros do not win this division, it will be because they got in their own way. With that, I have a hard time seeing that unfold because they are not the type of team to allow that to happen.
As we are a few months into June, Houston currently holds a record of 33-18 and leads the Angels by 6 games in the West. With the Mariners having a down year, it looks as if it is going to be a two-man division, which certainly looks good for the Stros.
Before this series with Kansas City, this squad swept the A’s in a three-game set. They did just what they needed to do against an inferior club and will be given a similar opportunity when they face this lowly Royals team starting on Friday.
Jose Urquidy will be on the mound in the opener and his season has been a mixed bag so far. The record of 4-2 is good but the ERA of 4.80 is certainly much higher than he would like. Regardless, he is going to need to be sharp when he faces off with a lineup that is not very skilled.
Kansas City Royals
Man, it is pretty hard to find all that many good things to say about this Royals team. Even the ones that are optimistic about them could not realistically praise them.
What you have seen from this team more times than not is a roster that is not very talented and frankly, a club that often looks overmatched.
Unless they were to get off to some crazy start, their lack of good play was pretty much expected. When you compare their roster to some of the other ones in the AL, it was reasonable to expect that they would not have a ton of success.
To me, this team is lacking in every possible way a team could and that starts with the front office and ownership. Based on the way that this group has been constructed, it is evident that winning is not their top priority.
In terms of the team being poorly built, where do I begin? The offense lacks true firepower and balance, the rotation is not one that makes hitters fearful, and the bullpen just needs more top-end arms to really compete. When those things are going against you, it is hard to expect all that much success.
Despite the fact that they play in a very average division, they are still last and trail the Twins by 12 games. You know it is bad when even the massively underachieving Tigers are ahead of you.
Needless to say, this series with the Astros is going to be a very big challenge for this group. They were not able to do their job against the Tribe just recently and Houston is a much better team than Cleveland.
The Royals will be turning to Brady Singer in this one and he will look to keep up his strong pitching. The righty comes into play with a 2-0 record and an ERA of 2.49.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Astros are 23-7 in their last 30 games on grass.
- The Astros are 20-7 in their last 27 games.
- The Royals are 2-9 in their last 11 games.
- The Royals are 1-10 in their last 11 games as a home dog.
Houston Astros vs. Kansas City Royals MLB Prediction:
The Astros have really been clicking and I do not see that stopping here. This is a good matchup for them and I look for them to show it.
I would not say that Urquidy has been unreliable but there is no question he could be sharper. Facing this KC offense is a good chance for him to lower that ERA a bit and earn a win.
Singer has been impressive so far but I do not live him going against Houston. I expect them to really grind him out and get to the pen.
I will lay off the runs here and take Houston on the Moneyline. It is certainly higher than I would but it is not too outrageous where it is a no-go for me.
