The Astros will be in the windy city to start a series with the White Sox on Monday evening.
Jose Urquidy and Johnny Cueto are the expected starters in this ball game.
Houston is a small favorite on the road in this spot with a total of 8 which really has not moved much.
Houston Astros
The Astros picked up the 6-3 win on Sunday and were able to complete the sweep of the lowly Oakland Athletics in a series that was pretty one-sided.
This group knew they were facing a bad team and they had to take advantage of that. When facing off with a team as devoid of talent as Oakland is, those are the things you have to do.
In the finale, I thought the Astros played a balanced game overall. They were able to have solid pitching and plenty of offense to get the job done.
Cristian Javier was once again very impressive last time out as he fired six scoreless innings while striking out six batters. He did not waste any time going up against that offense.
On offense, Houston was able to do most of their damage against starter Cole Irvin who allowed five earned runs while getting just one punchout. They had a good approach against him and were able to get plenty of different contributions on that side of the ball.
Alex Breman led the way on Sunday with a home run and 3 RBI on the day. Also, Jose Altuve picked up a hit and 2 RBI in the win.
The Astros will now be in for a bigger challenge when they hit the road to face off with the Sox. It is a winnable series for them, but it likely will not be a get-right one for them.
Jose Urquidy will start things off in this one and he has been solid this season. He does not always have big strikeout numbers, but he has found ways to induce soft contact and keep hitters off balance this season.
Chicago White Sox
With a 5-3 win over the Tigers on Sunday, the White Sox were also able to get the sweep over a divisional rival. Boy, did they need that.
Given how this team has played all season long, none of their games are guaranteed, but there really was no excuse not to do well against Detroit. It would have been a bad look if they slipped up against a team of that caliber.
In the three games over the weekend, the Chi Sox outscored their opponent by a 13-7 margin including one shutout. I thought they looked sharp on both sides of the field in those contests.
Lance Lynn went six innings and allowed two earned runs while punching out seven hitters in the finale over the Tigers. That is a good sign to see him putting forth those sorts of outings because he has not exactly been great since coming back this season.
The offense did not crush Tyler Alexander, but they were still able to get three runs off of him and then get some more against their bullpen.
We all know Chicago has mostly underperformed this season, but that does not mean they are out of contention in their division. Coming into play, they are tied with the Twins and trail the Guardians by 2.5 games in the AL Central.
This upcoming series with the Astros will be a tricky one for them and it is also one where they could make a statement if they play well. In last season’s playoffs, Houston really exposed them and they will look to not have that be the case in this four-game set.
Johnny Cueto will open things up in this series and this guy has been pretty good in 2022. He is no longer the guy he once was, but he has proven to be reliable and will look to keep up what he did against the Royals last time out.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Astros are 5-2 in their last 7 games following a win.
- The Astros are 15-6 in their last 21 road games vs. a right-handed starter.
- The White Sox are 1-4 in their last 5 during game 1 of a series.
- The White Sox are 1-4 in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
Houston Astros vs. Chicago White Sox MLB Prediction:
To me, this is a spot where the Astros will start off in the right direction.
Both of these pitchers have proven to be good this season, but I trust Urquidy and the bullpen for Houston more in this spot.
They might not smoke them, but I think the Astros will be able to do enough against Cueto & co. to get the game one victory.
Give me the Astros as a small favorite on the road here.
