The Astros will be taking on the Red Sox in game 2 of the series on Tuesday, May 17th.
The first pitch is set for 7:10 ET from Fenway Park.
Jose Urquidy and Nathan Eovaldi are your starters in this contest.
Houston Astros
After what was kind of a rocky start, the Astros have really seemed to get back on track lately. They have been playing some good baseball as of late.
We knew eventually that this team would figure it out. They are too talented and too experienced to be a team that just trades wins and losses for the whole year.
Even though they were not a team that got as much hype heading into this season as other clubs, they still feel like they will be in the mix when all is said and done. It is hard to disagree.
With that said, it is not as if Houston has no holes in their team. There are certain areas in which they could be better.
Clearly, their offense is not the same without Springer and Correa, which is expected. They still can score a lot of runs but they are not quite as powerful of a unit.
In terms of pitching, they do have some strong arms but I would not call them very deep in that category. If they want to be a legit threat, they are going to have to beef up their rotation and pen.
The Stros certainly did not start off the series with Boston as they wanted to, dropping 6-3. That was certainly a frustrating one for them.
Jake Odorizzi went 5 innings and allowed 1 earned run on Monday but the bullpen did not do their job. Jose Urquidy will look to get his team back on track for game 2.
Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox have been a colossal disappointment to this part of the season. There really are not a whole lot of other words that could describe them.
Based on how they played a year ago and the expectations that were given to them this year, they have come nowhere near playing at that kind of level. Unless things seriously change, this is how they will play for the remainder of the season.
You certainly have to question them making it to the ALCS in 2021 because they were a very flawed team and it did not necessarily make sense they were there. Regardless, they were there, won over 90 games, and people expected them to take it a step further in 2022.
Many people have said this for some time now and you are really seeing it materialize. This is a flawed team. They have a laundry list of areas in which they must improve. The team they have now is not the type to go out there and put a good product on the field daily.
The fact that this squad is constructed poorly has to fall right on the shoulders of Bloom and the ownership group. Remember, this is Boston and not Tampa Bay. It is not always as easy as just taking a chance on players that really have never been great.
There are a lot of times, especially in bigger market teams, where you have to open the wallet and spend big money to get big players. You have to really wonder if this front office has the team’s best interest in mind. The short answer would be NO.
Because of how wildly inconsistent they have been, you never truly know what Red Sox team you will get. Garrett Whitlock delivered a strong performance on Monday and the bullpen held up. They will look to string together multiple wins in a row now.
Boston will turn to their Ace, Nathan Eovaldi on Tuesday night and he will look to keep up his strong pitching. In a season where there has been much doom and gloom, he has been one of their few bright spots
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Astros are 2-5 in their last 7 games against the AL East.
- The Astros are 17-5 in their last 22 games.
- The Red Sox are 4-1 in their last 5 Tuesday games.
- The Red Sox are 6-14 in their last 20 games.
Houston Astros vs. Boston Red Sox MLB Prediction:
The Red Sox are at a point in their season where every game means so much to them. With their ace on the hill, this is one where they must come out and play well.
Urquidy has been a bit shaky this season and has not always matched up well with Boston. I am not very confident in him shutting them down here.
Eovaldi will certainly have his hands full here but I expect him to deliver a strong outing and lead his team to victory.
I will lay the 10 cents with Boston here.
