Houston Astros
Houston headed into Baltimore looking for its 100th win and twice failed, Thursday and Friday.
In fact, going into Saturday’s game, Houston has not scored a run in the series.
Kyle Bradish went 8.2 innings in the opener and Dean Kremer went the distance for his first career big league shutout on Friday.
Houston will score again this season and it will reach 100 wins for the first time under Dusty Baker (and has an outside shot at the franchise record of 107).
Even without Michael Brantley, who underwent shoulder surgery earlier this year and won’t be back until 2023, this offense has plenty to win a World Series.
Christian Javier, Sunday’s starter, may return to the bullpen to bolster it come playoff time.
It seems silly to do such a thing to a guy who has to be on the periphery of the Cy Young conversation in the American League.
He’s got a 141 ERA+ with a sub-1 WHIP in 136 innings, primarily as a starter but also out of the ‘pen.
The reality is that Javier has the most bullpen experience of any of Houston’s six starting pitchers.
Will a likely move to relief affect how Baker uses Javier down the stretch? Don’t count on anything different in this one. Houston won’t begin its postseason for another two-plus weeks in the ALDS.
Baltimore Orioles
The Mariners lost on Saturday, which meant the Orioles got to within three games of a playoff spot with their victory.
The road remains brutally tough down the stretch for Baltimore, with two more against Houston before a seven-game road trip through Boston and New York. Then the O’s finish against Toronto October 3, 4, and 5.
Before Bradish and Kremer did what they did in the first two games of this series, Jordan Lyles threw his first complete game in 10 years in a win over the Tigers.
So Mike Baumann will look to continue the run of sublime starting pitching on Saturday before Austin Voth takes the ball on Sunday in the finale.
He’s been terrific ever since Baltimore scooped him up off of waivers after the Nationals let him go.
As an Oriole, Voth is pitching to a 144 ERA+ in 73 innings, including 15 starts.
He pitched at Minute Maid Park against the Astros at the end of last month and gave up one hit in six innings (Baltimore lost the game).
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:

Houston Astros vs. Baltimore Orioles MLB Prediction:
Houston won’t be down long.
The offense gets on track, Javier does his thing, and the Astros help their division mates in Seattle take another step toward a postseason berth.
