Detroit continues to play decent ball. They have a great chance to emerge from the weekend wit a winning record thanks to playing Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh looks like a pretty good bet to finish with the worst record in the National League and probably the whole Majors this season.
Detroit Tigers
The Tigers were 5-5 heading into Thursday night action, but that level of play is going to be hard to sustain with their anemic offense. Their team batting average is just .205.
That is why even though they ar 11th in the Majors in homers they are struggling to score overall. Jonathan Schoop an CJ Cron brought their power with them from Minnesota but they are barely hitting the ball otherwise.
Other than Spencer Turnbull starting pitching has been weak spot for the Tigers Even Matt Boyd has struggled and he was their most proven arm coming into the season.
Pittsburgh Pirates
Pittsburgh’s statistical profile is about the same as Detroit but they have had much worse injury luck. Almost every starting pitcher they have is hurt.
Like the Tigers, the Pirates really struggle to score. Their average is even worse at an amazing .191 heading into Thursday. Amazingly there is one team actually below them overall.
Steven Brault has made two starts but only covered 5 innings over them. He has given up just one hit, which is a positive but don’t get caught thinking he is more than what he is. Especially given he is going to be long gone when the game is decided.
