The Twins beat the Tigers on Friday night, 6–0, in the series opener for their fourth win in a row.
Jake Odorizzi gave up a double to the second batter he faced and proceeded to set down twenty in a row, pitching seven complete innings and striking out five. He threw ninety-five pitches and simply let the bullpen preserve the shutout with a six-run lead.

Saturday is a doubleheader for these two teams so the Sunday starters become just a little more important. Daniel Norris began the season in the bullpen but will take the ball as a starter for the fifth outing in a row on Sunday.
He entered the rotation after Matt Moore went down and has gone exactly five innings in each of his four starts. He’s given up twenty-two hits and six walks in those twenty innings but he gave up ten of those hits and two of those walks in one outing.
He’s limited opponents to twelve hits and four walks in the other fifteen innings so he’s been good for three-quarters of his starts.
Minnesota Twins
With that brilliant outing on Friday, Odorizzi joined fellow starter Jose Berrios and catcher Mitch Garver in a three-way tie for the second-most Wins Above Replacement on the Twins (1.4).
The Twins began the season as just about the only feasible option in the AL Central outside of Cleveland but have quickly played their way into co-favorite status, in no small part due to the pitching.

Berrios, Odorizzi, and Sunday’s starter, Martin Perez, have all pitched to at least a 150 ERA+ in nearly 140 innings, combined. The bullpen has been surprisingly good, though nothing is that surprising with bullpens around the league anymore.
Blake Parker, Taylor Rogers, and Ryne Harper have pitched to an ERA+ well over 250 in over forty innings now this season. A trio like that is tough to beat.
