Detroit Tigers
The Tigers have been one of the more disappointing teams in baseball. Plain and simple.
When I say that, I do not mean that they should have some record that is off the charts but they should at least be decent and competitive. So far, that has been far from the case.
The team they have does have some legit talent which is why it is reasonable to feel they could be playing a lot better than they are. They are not so devoid of talent as in past years when it is expected they are going to be a laughing stock in the AL.
When it comes to who is to blame, there are plenty of people to be held responsible. Of course, is the players on the field who should ultimately be held accountable but Hinch deserves some of it as well. It is evident that he has not put his team in the best place to win on a daily basis and that is something he must take ownership of.
Unless something seriously changes with this group, this is going to be the kind of team they will be for the remainder of the year. If that is the case, it is going to be one long summer for Detroit.
Right now, the Tigers have a record of 13-25 and are last in the AL Central. Even though it is not the best division in the world, it is very unlikely that they improve much in the standings there.
After winning the first game of the series with the Rays earlier this week, Detroit dropped the next two games and the offense was absent in both of them. It is hard to win ball games when you score just 1 run in each of the games.
Tarik Skubal has looked sharp for this team so far and he will be depended on during Friday’s affair. He holds a record of 3-2 with an ERA of 3.04.
Cleveland Guardians
The Guardians have been an up-and-down squad this season. That is nothing new for them, though.
Realistically, it was not fair to expect Cleveland to be a team that did a lot of winning in 2022. I think you will them do a lot of trading wins and losses and they will likely be a team that wins a number of games in the 70s or maybe low 80s.
With the players that are on this roster, they are not so bad that they will be a total bottom feeder but they also are not loaded enough to where they will be top-notch. Being right near the middle is the most realistic place for them to be.
There is no question that they have two players who are the faces of the franchise. Shane Bieber is one of the best pitchers in baseball and Jose Ramirez is certainly a top third baseman in terms of defense and offense. All of that is well and good but is not enough.
What the Tribe really needs to do is bring in some other more talented guys that can help those two out. If they were able to build around those two, then they might have a chance of being something in the future but if not, it will be more of the same for them.
One thing that could not have made Cleveland too happy is dropping two games to the Reds on Wednesday and Friday. Wow, that is just a bad look.
Cal Quantrill went 7 innings and allowed just 1 earned run in the finale. Even that very strong outing was not able to get the job done.
Now, they will turn to Aaron Civale and that cannot make this group feel all that good. He has just 1 win with an ERA close to 10.

Civale has been dreadful this season but those numbers are not totally reflective of the kind of pitcher he has been in his career. I actually look at this one as a good chance for him to bounce back.
He does not need to be great here but rather effective. The Cleveland bats might not crush Skubal but I look for them to do enough against him and to get into that Detroit bullpen.
