You can tell how excited people are for the Cincinnati Reds 2020 season by them being a -185 favorite on opening day. The Reds are a 15/1 favorite to win the pennant even after a 75-87 campaign in 2019.
The Tigers aren’t considered one of the front runners in the highly competitive AL Central. Detroit had the fewest wins in all of baseball last season going just 47-114.
It’s looking pretty bleak for Detroit this upcoming season. It’s definitely a throw away year for Ron Gardenhire’s team not just because of the 60-game schedule but because this is going to be a very young squad.
The Tigers do have some new faces led by C.J. Cron and Jonathon Schoop but do they really strike fear in the opposition?
Some holdovers do have potential for an upstart season especially the outfield of Christin Stewart, JaCoby Jones, and Victor Reyes. As expected, the Tigers were dead last in the league in runs/game in 2019 at 3.61.
It’s not looking like a good opening day matchup for Detroit as Cincinnati has made an OK offense much, much better for 2020. Detroit starter Matthew Boyd was decent last year though with a 4.56 ERA on a bad team.
The Reds have added Shogo Akiyama, Nick Castellanos, and Mike Moustakas to a lineup that already included Joey Votto, Freddy Galvis, and Eugenio Suarez.
It’s Suarez who is one of the most watched players in baseball heading into the 2020 season following his 49 HR season in 2019. Suarez has poked out 109 bombs total the last three years.
The Reds may not need many runs on Friday not just because they’re playing Detroit, but because Sonny Gray is on the hill after posting a 2.87 ERA in 2019 that helped land him his 2nd all-star berth.

Free Detroit Tigers vs. Cincinnati Reds MLB Prediction:
That’s a big price to pay on the Reds on opening day with all the weirdness surrounding this season. The Cincinnati offense is potent, but may get out of the games a bit slow. With Gray on the mound, look for a low scoring affair.
4* Free MLB Betting Pick: Under 8
As long as Cincinnati doesn’t hit ‘over’ 8 themselves don’t expect much from the Tigers offense.
