Two AL Central squads will be starting a series on Friday evening as the White Sox will be playing host to the Tigers.
Daniel Norris and Michael Kopech are the expected starters in this contest.
Chicago is a very big favorite at home for the opener and I would expect that to remain true for the remainder of the series.
Detroit Tigers
With a 4-3 loss on Thursday, the Guardians were able to complete the sweep of a lowly Tigers team. There are many ways to describe ball club, but I feel that is one of the most accurate ones.
Most of the games were relatively close, but Cleveland proved to be the better team in all of them. There are really no surprises there given how differently those two teams have played all season long.
In the loss on Thursday, I would not say Detroit played a bad game, but they just were unable to really execute when they had to. There were certainly opportunities for them to come through, though.
Garrett Hill started the game and he went five innings while allowing four hits and one earned run. He only recorded one strikeout on the day, but he was still able to be effective.
The offensive flaws have been very apparent for the Tigers in 2022 and they were once again put on display in this game and for the whole series. At times, it came down to simply not putting the ball in play as much they should have and there were other times when they failed to get the timely hit.
These guys were really not able to get a ton done against Zach Plesac who was quite sharp in the finale. Detroit did make some noise against the bullpen and make things interesting, but it still was not enough for them.
Things do not all of a sudden get easier for this group when they hit the road to face the White Sox. Their opponent might not be the most consistent this season, but they are still much better than the Tigers and will present them with a lot of challenges in these games.
Daniel Norris will get the ball in the opener and he really has not been good this season. None of the numbers have been impressive and now he will look to find success against a dangerous offense.
Chicago White Sox
The White Sox really went into Kanas City hoping to pick up a sweep, but they laid a big egg and were only able to take one game against the Royals. I get their opponent is talented to a degree, but there is no excuse to lose that many games to them in a series.
Chicago ended their last series with a 5-3 loss. They did not show up in that game and really failed to show up in the whole series.
To me, this past series is yet another example of why the Southsiders are a hard team to totally have confidence in down the road. Look, there is no question they were playing better before this series and had turned their season around, but they still manage to underperform quite often.
Starter Dylan Cease fired six innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out eight batters. Given how well he pitched, it was a shame that the bullpen blew it and he had nothing to show for it.
The combination of Joe Kelly, Jose Ruiz, and Matt Foster allowed five hits and four earned runs. Being untrustworthy in the bullpen department has been a big issue for Chicago all season long and it just continues to bite them. If they do make it to the postseason, a team much better than the Royals will be exposing them in this area.
As far as the offense went on Thursday, they really were not able to do a lot against Zack Greinke despite picking up nine hits off of him. He did a really good job of limiting the damage against this lineup.
After what was a highly disappointing series in Kansas City, this team has to respond against a Tigers team that is very bad. None of these games are for certain, but Chicago cannot repeat what they did in their last series or I will trust them even less going forward.
Michael Kopech will get the ball on Friday and he is a guy where the record does not tell the whole story. There have been plenty of times where he has not gotten a ton of support but has still managed to pitch well. Overall, I feel he has been a solid arm in this rotation.

Man, the White Sox really blew a good opportunity to play well in their last series and they really have to get back on track in this one.
Chicago is a flawed team, but they are much better than their opponent and I like them in a spot like this.
Kopech can certainly be effective against this offense for Detroit and I feel he will be able to get some run support against what is a shaky pitching staff.
A Moneyline play is definitely out of the picture for Friday, but I like the Sox laying the runs in this spot.
