Detroit Tigers
Detroit has won a couple of games this week but that is partly because they were able to take on Baltimore, one of the few teams in the American League worse than them. They are 29th in scoring and given that you have to score to win it is difficult to feel comfortable getting behind them in almost all situations. In the two wins they only scored 7 runs, against the O’s. Hardly dominating.

Spencer Turnbull has been the best thing for the Tigers this season. He took some time away from the team due to a death in the family and is returning to make this start. He is coming off his worst start of the season so perhaps a mental reset was not such a bad thing. Atlanta has never seen him before and they are a young team so perhaps there is an advantage there.
Atlanta Braves
Atlanta dropped back to back games to Washington coming into this one. This is the perfect opponent to get back on track for a team that has avoided any prolonged stretches of bad play. Austin Riley continues to impress as a rookie. He has homers in back to back games coming into this one and 20 RBIs in just 14 games. These guys can be really good when they are rolling.

Mike Foltynewicz was the Braves best starter a year ago. He has been anything but this season but might be turning things around with back to back strong outings. He seems to have lost all of his dominance from a year ago but last season might have been an outlier. If the Braves want to be in the race for the season they have to clean things up in the bullpen. They are 27th in WAR. Not many winning teams are in the bottom third of that category.
