The Rockies started their season at home against the Marlins, who could be the worst team in baseball this season. Colorado won the first two but lost the last two, plus Daniel Murphy, whom they inked for two years in the offseason to man first base. Murphy broke his finger on a dive play and will be out for a while.

Chad Bettis pitched into the sixth inning on Monday night in Tampa Bay but Bud Black wished he hadn’t. He gave up three in the frame and three in the fourth to finish with an ugly six runs to his name, despite not pitching terribly on the whole.
Colorado throws Kyle Freeland on Tuesday and German Marquez in this one. Both those guys won in their first starts of the season on Thursday and Friday. Marquez went six innings and gave up just two hits and a run, striking out seven Fish.
Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays won their fourth in a row on Monday behind six stellar pitching performances, starting with Ryne Stanek, who struck out the side to open the game in his only inning, and finishing with Diego Castillo, who did the same in the ninth.
Ryan Yarbrough went the second, third, fourth, fifth, and got an out in the sixth, giving up just one run. Kevin Kiermaier went deep for a three-run bomb that gave the Rays some separation in the sixth.

Tampa put Joey Wendle on the Injured List on Monday but it can survive without one of its top position players. The lineup is deep and young; the pitching is fantastic; and I love everything about the Rays’ chances to win the division.
