SF is a massive favorite here with the total set at 6.5.
Colorado Rockies
The Rockies have surprised a lot of folks this season with their play. As just a baseball fan, it is good to see that they are at least relevant for the moment,
We knew that they went out there and got some guys to improve their club but the expectation around the league largely was that it would be more of the same for them in terms of results. They might be a little better but it would not be anything worth noting.
Clearly, there is still a very long season to go but they are at least on the right path with their start. What they have done so far is impressive and they are hoping it is attainable for the remainder of the year.
Coming into this series with the Snakes, they have a record of 16-12 and are 3rd in the NL West. The Rockies have the same record as the Giants do at the moment.
Given the kind of division that is the NL West, I still do not feel Colorado winning it is reasonable. I feel they could be a playoff team with the new format but it seems like the Dodgers are on pace to once again secure the West.
One team that you cannot take lightly in this division is the Diamondbacks and the Rockies found that out this weekend as they lost two out of three to them. Arizona blanked them 4-0 in the finale and frankly, did a good job navigating through the offense for the whole series.
German Marquez went 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs in the loss on Sunday. That kind of performance should at least give your team a chance to win but the offense was totally nonexistent for them.
Austin Gomber will be on the mound for the opener with San Francisco and he will hope to get more run support than his teammate did. That will not be easy when they face off with Rodon, though.
San Francisco Giants
I would say the Giants have been solid this season but not great. They could be playing better than they have been but I do not hate the direction they are headed in.
When you look at how well this team did a year ago, fans want to see more of the same this season. The reality is, that they could still have a very strong 2022 campaign and not have the success they did in 2021 in terms of just wins and losses.
I do not care how good a team is or how well managed they are, winning over 100 games like they did recently is not easy and it can be hard to repeat. Considering the kinds of teams they play in their division and also in the NL, that is an awfully tall task.
Last year was not a fluke that they won the West but the Dodgers were still the better team and that was proven in the playoffs. Even with the team that the Giants have now, I would have a pretty hard time believing they win it for the second year in a row given how well LA is playing and San Diego playing how they ought to be.
Regardless, I am still very bullish on this Giants crew and I have good reason to be. They have a very balanced lineup with an excellent approach, deep pitching in terms of the pen and rotation, and a very good manager. When those things mix, wins often follow.
San Francisco split a four-game series with the Cardinals over the weekend. St. Louis took the first two games and San Francisco took the last two.
In the 4-3 win on Sunday, Jakob Junis went 5 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. That is a good sign for them because he may not be the flashiest arm they feature in the rotation but he could be a key guy for them during the season.
The ace of the staff, Carlos Rodon, will get the ball on Monday evening. The big southpaw has done just what they asked out of him so far as he holds a record of 3-1 with an ERA of less than 2.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Rockies are 2-5 in their last 7 Monday games.
- The Rockies are 5-13 in their last 18 games against the NL West.
- The Giants are 48-17 in their last 65 games as a favorite.
- The Giants are 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a left-handed starter.
Colorado Rockies vs. San Francisco Giants MLB Prediction:
After a series in which they did not look too good, it does not any easier for the Rockies when they hit the road to face this Giants team.
Although the Rockies are improved, San Francisco is the better team here and I feel they will put that on display.
I would not be surprised if Rodon continues to impress on Monday. Gomber can certainly be effective but I do not feel it will be enough to get the job done on the road.
I will lay the 1.5 runs with SF at home.
