Colorado Rockies
The Rockies have played pretty well so far this year. I have been impressed by what they have been able to do.
There is certainly reason to feel optimistic with the way they have played. It has been a little while since a fan could say that about this team.
A popular idea about them for this season is that they would be better than past years but still nothing great. I think it is fair to say there were not all that many people who had them at 16-13 at this point.
It will be interesting to see what kind of team they are as the season goes on. We have seen many examples of teams that start off well but begin to fade. I am not saying that will absolutely happen for them but you have to wonder.
It is very evident that the offense is a big strength of theirs and has been a reason why they are winning games. Given who they have in that lineup, that really is not that much of a shock.
The pitching, however, is not exactly a great area for them and that was put on display on Monday in their 8-5 loss. Oftentimes, weak pitching ends up getting exposed and that is what happened there.
Austin Gomber ended up going 5.1 innings and allowed 5 earned runs. He gave them decent length but he certainly was not very effective out there.
Antonio Senzatela is the next man up in the rotation and he will look to give a better start. He knows how tough this lineup can be so it certainly will not come easy for him.
San Francisco Giants
The Giants have started off the year strong. I like the direction they are headed in.
This team had lots of expectations heading into the year and you can see why. After they put forth an excellent campaign in 2021, fans expected more of the same for this season.
As we know, winning 107 games in baseball does not happen routinely. They had a truly magical regular season and it will be very hard to repeat that kind of success even if they do turn in a very good season.
San Francisco knows how tough this division is and winning it is no picnic. Even with the team they have now, it would be a very tall order for them to repeat as the West champs.
The Dodgers currently lead the division with a record of 19-8 and the Giants are third with a record of 17-12. It goes without saying, but those head-to-head matchups within the division are going to be so critical to determining the winner of it.
I am very high on this team and think they could make a deep run but I do not see them on the same level as the Dodgers. Really, I am not sure if they are on the same level as a fully healthy Padres team. Of course, they could take those teams downs but they would have the advantage in terms of raw talent.
The offense was quite good for them in the victory over the Rockies but so was Carlos Rodon. The lefty went 6 innings and struck out 12 batters. He is continuing to show why he was such a key acquisition to this ball club.
San Fran will look for Alex Wood to keep his team rolling and he has not been consistently sharp so far. He holds a record of 2-2 with an ERA of 4.38. It certainly will not be easy for him against this Colorado lineup.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Rockies are 34-70 in their last 104 road games.
- The Rockies are 13-3 in their last 16 during game 2 of a series.
- The Giants are 6-2 in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a winning record.
- The Giants are 38-15 in their last 53 games vs. the NL West.
Colorado Rockies vs. San Francisco Giants MLB Prediction:
I look for the Giants to keep up their strong play in this one. I like the way they match up and just feel they have the advantage over this Colorado team.
Senzatela is solid and he cannot be taken lightly but it will be very hard for him to keep this lineup in check for too long.
As noted earlier, Wood has not been great this season but he does not have to be. If he can be effective and give them length, I like the chances for San Francisco.
It may not be a total blowout but I trust the Giants laying it at home here.
