The Rockies will be taking on the Phillies in game 2 of the series on Tuesday, April 26th.
German Marquez will be matched up with Zach Eflin here.
Philadelphia took game 1 of the series on Monday by a score of 8-2.
Colorado Rockies
The Rockies have certainly surprised some folks with the start they have gotten off to. As the season goes on, we will see if it was all smoke and mirrors or if they are a legit team in the NL.
When I look at this roster, I see a team that has some potential, but they are still a ways away from being a true threat. They would really have to bolster several areas of their team to be put in that category.
The offense is clearly a strength of theirs and that will win them some games but the pitching has to be stronger at some point in order for them to win at a more consistent clip. If not, it is going to be more of the same for them.
If they want to make any sort of noise in the West, they are going to have to play very well against some of the top teams. They looked pretty good against the Dodgers at the beginning of the season and they will look for more of that as they start to face them more often.
Colorado was able to take two games out of three against the Tigers over the weekend but did not look good at all in the 8-2 loss to the Phillies on Monday. Clearly, they will have to be much sharper on Tuesday night.
I get that Philadelphia is a tough team and their roster is improved but they should not be losing by that margin to them. Given the kind of bullpen they have to offer, a halfway decent offense should be able to have pretty good success against them.
Kyle Freeland looked sharp on Monday but the bullpen was not able to hold the lead. The game really got out of control in the latter parts.
German Marquez will get the start for these guys on Tuesday. He has already faced the Phillies once this season and saw mixed results in that one.
Philadelphia Phillies
An understatement would be to say that the Phillies have gotten off to a slow start. They can certainly turn it around but they better act quickly.
Each year we hear about how great their players are and the kind of manager they have leading them. More times than not, none of that matters and they are a middling team when all is said and done.
For this team to constantly underperform, there has to be something deeper that we, the fans do not know about. Whether it be turmoil in the locker room, players not buying in, lack of focus, etc. something has to explain why.
Realistically, I feel this team could win in the low to mid 80’s and maybe get a wild card. I would find it very hard to imagine that they win their division as it is very clear the Mets are better than them and once the Braves get out of their own way, they are also better.
The Phils took game 1 against the Brewers on Friday but lost the next two and each time, the offense essentially vanished for them. When you have those kinds of bats in the lineup, those sorts of things cannot happen, regardless of who the pitchers are.
I think the series with Milwaukee was a good reality check for this team. If you want to beat the best the NL has to offer, you have to got to play a complete baseball game and that is not something they have done all to often in 2022.
They certainly started off the series with the Rockies the way they would have wished and will look to have similar results the rest of the way. Kyle Gibson put forth a solid effort and the offense did their part.
Zach Eflin will look to make it two in a row for his team when he gets the ball here. He is 0-1 on the year with an ERA north of 5.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Rockies are 5-0 in their last 5 during game 2 of a series.
- The Rockies are 4-1 in their last games following a loss.
- The Phillies are 9-4 in their last 13 games as a home favorite.
- The Phillies are 4-9 in their last 13 games overall.
Colorado Rockies vs. Philadelphia Phillies MLB Prediction:
Colorado did not play up to their capability on Monday and I do feel they can be better in this one.
Philadelphia is the better team but they do not have the starting pitching advantage. I am not totally sold on Eflin being all that great here.
I can see this shaping out to be a close game and it would not shock me if the Rockies won it outright.
My play is on the Rockies run line.
