Colorado Rockies
The Rockies have gotten off to a very good start this season and it definitely has some people surprised. We shall see if they will keep it up as the season progresses.
Even though you cannot deny how they have played it still is very important to remember how early it is. I am not saying it is impossible for them to maintain strong play this season but it is very possible what we are seeing here are smoke and mirrors.
To me, this team just does not have enough talent on their roster to compete on a consistent level with the big dogs. There is no question they have made some improvements to their team but they are still a long way from being a true threat or contender in the West.
One of the biggest questions that I have with this group is their pitching. I have no questions they will be able to have a lot of success scoring runs but keeping other teams off the board is going to be tough for them.
Over the weekend, this club took two games out of three from the Detroit Tigers. They looked terrible on Saturday but were still able to win the series against a team that is decent.
In the 6-2 win on Sunday, Chad Kuhl went 6 innings and allowed just 1 earned run. He was quite effective while he was out there.
Kyle Freeland will get an opportunity to shut down this explosive offense on Monday when he gets the ball. Let’s just say that he has not gotten off to the best start this year as he is 0-2 with an ERA of 7.71.
This series is going to be tricky for them but it is winnable for the Rockies. The Phillies are a good team on paper but they have yet to show they are consistent winners this year and they can be beaten.
Philadelphia Phillies
Unlike their opponent, it has not been a great start for the Phillies in 2022. Things have just not been able to click for this group so far.
I do feel they will get better as the year goes on just because of who they have on their team but I am not sure how great they will be. It could very well just end up being another mediocre season for them.
A common theme for them over the years is having very high expectations and then not meeting them. We always hear about how great they will be but more times than not they end up being a disappointment.
The additions they made to their team no question made them better but they still are going to have their hands full when it comes to competing with their own division. Right now, I would say the Mets are a better team and a fully loaded Braves team is also better.
Right now, the Phillies are tied 0-0 with the Brewers on Sunday night baseball. Each team has taken one game in that series so far.
Philadelphia took game 1 of the series by a score of 4-2 and lost game 2 by a score of 5-3. Runs have certainly come at a premium in that series given the kind of pitching we have seen.
Pitching is certainly a big concern for this team this season which is why it is a good sign to see them have some success in that department against a good Brewers lineup.
So far, Aaron Nola has gone 5 innings and struck out 7 batters. He has only allowed 1 hit in the game.

I do not have a ton of confidence in Freeland being able to contain this lineup but I do feel the Rockies can have success off of Gibson and get into that bullpen. I see this being a closer type of game.
The 1.5 runs are too many for me to lay with Philadelphia.
