The Rockies and Brewers will be playing the third game of their series on Sunday afternoon.
As of now, Milwaukee is a very big favorite at home. The total in this game opened at 9 and there has not been a lot of movement there.
Chad Kuhl will be facing Eric Lauer in this one, which is a good matchup, although it does not feature marquee names.
Colorado Rockies
With nearly 100 games in the books, I think it is pretty clear what kind of team the Rockies are and it does not look so great for them.
When I look at this team, there are not many reasons for me to have a ton of hope. I really do not all of a sudden see them getting better in the future years.
I would not say that this team is devoid of talent, but I also would not they are totally built to win now. If they wanted to be more competitive, they simply would have better players on both sides of the field.
There is no question the offense is a good one, but that is just one piece to the puzzle for them. Having the ability to hit for power and score runs has helped them at times, but it still is not going to take away from the fact that they have plenty of other weaknesses.
It has been an issue for a while now, but the pitching still has really not been addressed and it continues to cost this group. With a few exceptions, the rotation and bullpen are not where it needs to be and that will have to get better if they want to get better. If this was an organization that had a better track record, I would say they open the wallet and acquire those needs, but I am not certain with this current Colorado regime.
The lack of pitching has been put on full display in the first two losses to the Brewers on Friday on Saturday. After dropping the first game by a score of 6-5, they dropped the second one by a score of 9-5.
In their last loss, Jose Urena went 5.1 innings while allowing 6 hits and 5 earned runs. He did give better length than I thought, but he still was not overly effective against a tough lineup.
Colorado will be turning to Chad Kuhl in this one and I have often liked what I have seen from him. He is one of the few guys in this rotation that I do feel can at least deliver a solid outing when he takes the hill.
Milwaukee Brewers
Throughout the National League, the Brewers might not be a team that gets a ton of talk compared to some other teams, but I have liked what I have seen from them and I do view them as a legit team.
With that said, I do feel teams like the Mets and Dodgers have the ability to be more dominant, but this is a team right here that is very dangerous and could make seem noise in the postseason.
Overall, I feel this is a roster that is fairly balanced and they have been able to get a number of different contributions throughout the season. It is not to say they could not improve even more at the deadline, but I largely like what they have so far.
The offense might not have the best hitters in the sport in there, but they still have gotten solid production in that department. It is not a part of their game they should lean on to carry them, but I still like what they have done there.
Clearly, the biggest strength for them is the pitching and I cannot wait to see what they are like when they are truly healthy. You know your rotation is in good shape when you get some form of Burnes, Woodruff, and Peralta as your top 3. Also, it is important to note a guy like Eric Lauer has been impressive this season.
I still feel Milwaukee would have a tough time taking down one of the best in the NL come October, but I cannot rule it around because of their strong arms. When a team has some of the guys they have, it is hard to truly rule them out.
Given how tight the NL Central has been at the top, the Brewers know they cannot drop games to the Rockies and so far, they have been able to get the job done. The bullpen did allow some runs at the end after a very good start by Brandon Woodruff, but they were still able to get victory on Saturday and will look to do the same on Sunday.
The aforementioned Lauer will be getting the ball in this contest and he is a guy who I think gets his role. He knows he does not have to be a top-of-rotation guy or be flashy, but he just has to get the job done. By and large, he has been able to be effective in his 2022 season.

The Brewers have done what they have needed to do in the first two and I see them keeping that up here.
Kuhl has been sharp at times this season, but he is going to have a tall order with this lineup. When he leaves, I am not exactly confident in the Colorado bullpen keeping them in check.
It is not an easy lineup to keep in control, but I do feel Lauer can do enough to be solid here and hand the game off to the pen.
Give me Milwaukee laying the runs at home.
