Buddy Black is going with Tyler Anderson in Game 2. The kid really struggled in August but righted the ship in his final three September starts. The decision leaves Jon Gray the odd man out.
Thing is, the Brewers have some serious power and nobody in the National League gave up more home runs than Anderson (30 in 176 innings). He’s got reverse splits so don’t assume he’s going to negate the Brewers’ left-handed power (Yelich, Shaw and Moose).
Lastly on the side of the pitching, Gray may be the odd man out of the starting rotation but this very well may be a spot he piggy-backs, if needed. If he has to spell Senzatela on Thursday, well, it could end up being a short series. I just don’t see Anderson throwing well for much more than three innings and even if he does, the Rockies need length out of at least one more guy.
Gerardo Para has seen Milwaukee’s starter, Jhoulys Chacin, the most of any Rockie in his career. He’s slashing .265/.342/.353 in thirty-eight plate appearances. Para certainly makes the Rockies a better defensive team when he’s in there; perhaps Black will give him the start.
Chacin didn’t win Game 163, but he got seventeen outs in seventy-five pitches because he didn’t allow anything but an Anthony Rizzo solo shot. Now he’ll face the team that he pitched for in his first six big league seasons on short rest.
The consensus seems to be this will be an abbreviated start for Chacin because he’s only on three days but, in today’s day, is five innings an abbreviated start? He’s a big, strong guy; I wouldn’t be surprised if he got through five, or even six if he’s cruising.
In the four seasons from 2010 to 2013 with Colorado, he put up an ERA+ of 125 or better in three of them. This season, he beat the Rockies in his only start against them, a 5–2 win Brewers’ win at Coors Field.

Free Colorado Rockies vs Milwaukee Brewers MLB Prediction: Milwaukee.
I’m writing this early Thursday but I think I’m going to like the Brewers, unless circumstances totally change before, during or after Game 1.
Chacin has been a great bet all year and he’ll be heavy chalk for good reason in this one. Colorado’s pitching will be at its absolute weakest with no day off between Games 1 and 2. I don’t expect Anderson to pitch well and even if he does, it won’t be for long. The Rockies will be hard-pressed to get seven good innings out of their staff.
