The Rockies and Marlins will be ending their series in an early one on Thursday.
Kyle Freeland will be opposed by Braxton Garrett in this one.
Right now, Miami is a small favorite at home.
Colorado Rockies
The Rockies are a team that has come back down to Earth a lot and they are starting to play how people thought they would.
There is no question that this team started off very strong, but they simply have not been able to maintain. It is one thing to begin well and it is another to keep it up for the rest of the season.
It is not as if Colorado is totally devoid of talent, but they still have quite a long way to go before they are truly competitive. Unless they change a lot, this is going to be a team that is either middling or below average.
Based on what has happened so far this season, the offense is their biggest strength. It is not as if it is one of the best in the sport, but it does have the ability to at least keep them in ball games.
A problem that has plagued them for a while is pitching. They are not talented or deep enough in that area and it has cost them on many occasions.
The common thought would be that the front office would look to improve the rotation and bullpen, but I am not sold on that. I am not saying they are content with what they have, but I also do not feel they will make a huge effort to bring better people in.
As I write this, Colorado is down by a score of 7-1 to the Marlins. Frankly, it is not acceptable to be losing by that kind of margin to that team. They will look to at least salvage one game from the series in the finale on Thursday.
Kyle Freeland will be getting the ball in the last game and he has not been very impressive this season. The left-hander comes into play with a record of 3-5 and an ERA of 4.46.
Miami Marlins
To me, the Marlins have been a weird team this season. Depending on the game, they have the ability to show a different version of themselves.
I have heard some ideas out there that this team could get hot and make some noise in the NL, but I am not sold on that. They are still on a show-me basis for the time being.
When it comes down to it, I do not feel this team is talented enough this season to make a run at the division or the wild card. There is no question that they have pieces, but I still see it being a few more years down the road until it really comes together for Miami.
One thing that is certain with this group is pitching is a clear strength of theirs. Sometimes guys like Pablo Lopez and Sandy Alcantara might not get a ton of national attention, but they are two of the best in the game and are true Cy Young contenders.
What I would really like to see them do is improve their offense. That part of their game is not putting them over the top and if it does not get addressed, then they will keep on being the team they are.
Part of their success on the offensive side of things is going to have to come from their prospects. The Fish are not a team that will go out there and spend a ton of money to get proven hitters, so there is going to have to be some patience involved from the fan angle of this.
Although I am not in love with their lineup, they have had some success in this Colorado series and have scored 16 runs in about 7 innings of play so far.
With every game being so important to them, they really have to complete the sweep on Thursday. With that said, Braxton Garrett might not be the guy they want on the mound here. So far, he is 1-2 with an ERA of 4.85 and has not shown too many positive signs so far.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Rockies are 5-2 in their last 7 during game 3 of a series.
- The Rockies are 2-6 in their last 8 Thursday games.
- The Marlins are 6-0 in their last 6 games as a favorite.
- The Marlins are 4-0 in their last 4 games vs. a team with a losing record.
Colorado Rockies vs. Miami Marlins MLB Prediction:
The Marlins have taken care of business up to this point in the series and see them doing so once again here.
I just feel Miami is the better team at the moment and I trust them more than Colorado.
Neither one of these starters impresses me all that much. In that case, I like the team who has the better bullpen.
Give me the Marlins as a shore favorite at home.
