The Angels and Orioles will be starting a series on Thursday evening from Baltimore.
Los Angeles opened as a small favorite, but it is now the O’s who are the favorite. There has been no movement from the total of 8.5.
Chase Silseth will be going against Jordan Lyles in this game.
LA Angels
The Angels might have surprised some people early on with their strong play, but they are right back in the spot they have been in for what seems like forever.
Unless they maintained that high level of play, it was understood that it was only a matter of time before they were a middling team that was not all that relevant.
This is a team right here that is a classic example of how a few players do not make one team. Sure, it is great they have two of the top talents in this sport, but there is still a lot more that goes into it if they truly want to be competitive.
After a while, what LA does year after year really gets old. Until they can actually prove they can sustain the success of the full slate, they are not going to be a team that is taken all that seriously in the MLB.
It has been said for a while now, but it continues to be true. The pitching for this team still holds them back and until they really get it fixed and make it a strength of theirs, they are not going to be a true threat in what is a very good AL.
The Halos lost a close one to the Marlins on Tuesday by a score of 2-1, but they were able to get the 5-1 win on Wednesday. The pitching was not the issue in either of the games, but it was nice to see them get some offense in game 2.
If this were a few years ago, they would view this series with the Orioles as a get-right series, but that is not the case. As weird as it might seem, this series is going to be a test for the Angels and if they are not ready, it could go bad for them.
Chase Silseth will be on the hill here and has not been all that great so far. I get that he does not have the most experience, but I still have not seen a ton that I like from him.
Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles have not gotten a ton of attention this season and I am not saying they necessarily should be, but there is no question they do look better than they have in a while and that is certainly a good sign for them.
Of course, this season was not going to be measured on the playoffs or anything like that, but they had to see some sort of improvement in 2022. If that did not happen, then would be even more cause for concern.
Look, Baltimore still has a lot of work to do before they are back in the mix of the AL, but they are at least no longer a bottom feeder and they have shown the ability to be more competitive.
Based on how bad they have been for so long, teams used to really want to face these guys because they thought it would be a soft landing, but that is no longer entirely the case. It is still going to be tricky for these guys to take down a really good team in a series, but you at least feel like they have a better chance than they did before.
Given how tough the AL East is and how much attention the Yankees are getting due to their great play, the O’s are a team that gets overshadowed at times. Being in the basement is nothing new for them, but if they were going really bad, they would be 30+ games out of first place right now.
Baltimore was able to take care of the Rangers on Wednesday by a score of 2-1 and was able to complete the sweep. Although they were not facing some great team, being able to win all games in that series was a big statement made by them.
This upcoming tilt with the Angels is not going to be an easy one, but it is one they should feel confident in. I could really see this series as one that could go either way.
Jordan Lyles will be the starter here and he has pitched like the guy we thought he would. He will occasionally be impressive, but he has been an average pitcher for the majority of the season and that will likely keep up as the season goes on.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- The Angels are 10-28 in their last 38 games on grass.
- The Angels are 2-10 in their last 12 during game 1 of a series.
- The Orioles are 5-1 in their last 6 home games vs. a right-handed starter.
- The Orioles are 15-41 in their last 56 Thursday games.
LA Angels vs. Baltimore Angels MLB Prediction:
It might seem weird to say, but I trust the Orioles more in this spot. It is very hard to have a ton of confidence in what the Angels are doing right about now.
LA might be the more talented team on paper, but they are not the more complete team and I could see this one being a tough one for them.
Neither pitcher is all that great, but I trust Lyles and their bullpen more than Silseth and what is a pretty shaky pen.
I like the O’s as a slight favorite here.
