Colorado Rockies

Colorado scored four in the eighth to beat Arizona, 6–2, on Friday night. The win snapped a three-game losing streak and, coupled with Los Angeles’ loss to San Diego, drew the Rockies to with one-and-a-half in the NL West.

German Marquez gave up an early two-run homer but gave up nothing after that to keep his team in the game and give it a chance to do exactly what it did at the end. He also struck out his 200th batter of the season in the first inning of his start.

Colorado has nine games remaining and it has the schedule advantage over the Dodgers, surely. After Saturday and Sunday in Arizona, the Rockies go back home for series’ against the Phillies and Nationals.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, will go to Arizona and then San Francisco to finish the regular season up on the road. These final two games for Colorado in the desert are key, as are LA’s last two at home on Saturday and Sunday.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Arizona hasn’t been mathematically eliminated yet and so will continue to play things out, but this team will probably host the Dodgers with a broken spirit next week.

This season has been brutal for Arizona, which hasn’t had a ton of injuries after a bunch of them early, but simply hasn’t had the talent to keep up with LA, or even Colorado. The D’Backs are six games back, heading into Saturday.

Zack Godley has been a bull for another full year, however. This guy isn’t a great pitcher but he’s good and the longer the stays around, the more he’ll improve. He’s fun to watch and I certainly hope he stays as healthy as he has.
