Wednesday was a good one for Cleveland, which took care of Detroit again and saw both the A’s and Rays lose.
Aaron Civale just continues to deal. He went seven innings and gave up just two runs in a 4-2 victory. Jason Kipnis homered and drove in two in the win.

Of course, all of the winning and success feels a little bit in vain now that Jose Ramirez is out. There is still hope he’ll come back in the playoffs but pipe dreams around the postseason don’t ever seem to work out.
The Indians are going to have to move forward with Yu Chang at third base and that is probably the difference between being a true pennant contender and not.

Tuesday’s opener was an embarrassment for Charlie Morton against his former team and Wednesday was another tough loss for the bullpen, which has really been the undoing of this Tampa Bay team.
Despite all of the injuries, the starting pitching has been good; when it’s been healthy, it has been terrific. The offense has produced.
The bullpen, which was so good last season, has been the weak point.
If the Rays can’t salvage a game in Houston, they could enter this as many as four losses behind the Tribe and just as far back of Oakland.
Zack Greinke goes for H-Town on Thursday so it really won’t get any easier for the Rays, who are going to have to gain ground in September.
