Cleveland Indians
Cleveland salvaged one in Los Angeles against the Dodgers on Thursday and come into Minnesota two games back in the division.
There’s really no rush to get first-place back right now. The Indians have the superior talent that will shine through eventually – that’s the beauty of 162.
That’s not to say the Tribe wouldn’t love a sweep over the weekend. Carlos Carrasco starts on Friday night against a career minor leaguer. This one is a total mismatch, on paper.
Minnesota Twins
Lefty Nik Turley made his big league debut last weekend at the age of 27. That doesn’t seem so old until you find out that he spent 10 years in the minor leagues after being drafted straight out of high school.
The hard work and persistence paid off. He’s a Twin now and making his second start after allowing four runs in four innings against the Giants.
Turley gave up eight hits but didn’t walk a batter.
Perhaps he was too much around the plate. For a guy not to walk a single big leaguer in his debut and last four innings is slightly encouraging, to me.
