Cleveland Indians
The postseason cut-off in the American League is projected to be around .500 and so the Indians look good, entering Friday night’s game four games over.
Of course, it wasn’t much longer than a week ago that Cleveland was competing for the top spot in the league and the Central Division title.
The Tribe lost eight in a row, though, and will have to take care of business in the season’s final week to make sure it gets in.
Tristan McKenzie started hot with a 10-strikeout game in his first Major League start and a 1.69 ERA through his first three outings.
Since, he’s given up eight runs in just over nine innings (two starts), despite striking out 14 batters to walking just two. He did, however, give up four home runs in those last two starts.
Detroit Tigers
The Tigers faded in the second half of the shortened season and probably would have fallen even further in a full 162 games.
As it is, Detroit wasn’t terrible this season and did get a chance to see some of its future core.
Spencer Turnbull may not be part of that long-term future. He’s still a young arm but seemingly plateauing.
In nine starts this season, he’s 4–3 with a 120 ERA+ that does not at all coincide with his strikeout (7.3 per nine) to walk (5.5 per nine) numbers.
