Cleveland Indians
Cleveland was off to just a 2–3 start before sweeping the Blue Jays in four in a row this weekend. Mike Clevinger dominated for five innings before exiting with back tightness. It’s still too early to know if he’ll miss any starts going forward but he struck out 10 and allowed just one hit in five innings before departing.

Aside from Clevinger’s potential setback, the Indians are getting healthier. Jason Kipnis could be ready to make his season debut in this game and if not, he’ll be ready soon enough.
Francisco Lindor still has about two weeks until he’ll be ready to play following an ankle injury right before the start of the season. Just the fact that the Tribe has lasted a week-plus without him and has a winning record to show for it is a positive start to things.
Danny Salazar and Bradley Zimmer should return sometime in May.
Corey Kluber has been healthy but ineffective through two starts. He’s 0–2 with six earned runs allowed in just over 10 innings so far.
Detroit Tigers
Jordan Zimmermann, however, has been off to a fantastic start, as have the Detroit Tigers as a team.
Zimmermann has given up just seven hits and one run in nearly 14 innings. He’s struck out 10 with just one walk but doesn’t have a win to show for it, rather just two no-decisions.

Detroit’s lineup hasn’t been anything special, with the exception of Niko Goodrum, who’s got a 172 OPS+ despite not hitting a home run yet.
It’s been the starting pitching that’s excelled. All five starters have ERAs better than league average and Matt Moore has 10 shutout innings to start the season, though he’s already landed on the Injured List.
