Cleveland Indians
The Indians were fired up to play the best team in the Majors over the weekend and swept away the Houston Astros. Then they went to Cincinnati and dropped the first game against the Reds at the Great American Ballpark, 5-1.
It did go under but we missed on the side. Now Carlos Carrasco takes the ball, looking to even the series.
Carrasco didn’t start in that series against Houston and was actually a little roughed up the game before when Cleveland beat Tampa Bay, 8-7.
Carrasco hasn’t generated so much attention around the league this season but I surmise that he’ll be in the AL Cy Young race right up until the end, so long that he stays healthy.
The Indians have won six of his eight starts and his WHIP 0.88 with 11 walks to 52 strikeouts. Put simply, this guy is one of the very best in baseball.
Cincinnati Reds
Amir Garrett came into this season a bare-bottomed rookie, never having thrown a pitch in Major League Baseball.
And he started well, a 1.83 ERA through his first three starts. But he’s a prime example of why you can’t get too crazy about April numbers.
Garrett has struggled with his control since, walking 15 in his last four starts, and he’s 3-3 with a 5.18 ERA after that strong start.
